Chat apps - what do you use?

I see a lot of posts here from people wanting to use Google chat. Just what is so appealing about it? As for myself, I'd rather chat via Skype or video on whereby or zoom.

I know a few like to use Kik, but that's only for texting.

We also primarily use Skype. But we also use Google Chat for certain friends. We're not a big fan of Whereby or Kik.

The only thing I don't like about Google chat is that you have to use your email address. Scammers prefer Google chat because if you connect with them, they have access to your email address. Then you may be getting a lot of spam in your inbox.

They say it's more secure, but what's secure about letting everyone know what your email address is?

My go-to is Google chat - Google already knows lots about me so trying to restrict access is not worth the effort for me. I do have a unique email address for nudist chats and have changed it when spam or others get overwhelming.
When I get to know someone, I use Skype for both text and video chatting. If get to know someone very well, I use WhatsApp.
