I agree, shadows are absolutely essential to nude photography. But there are two uses of shows. The example you posted is one in which the shadow adds texture and variation. This can be very interesting. But the more important use of shadow is sculpting the shape of the body. Without those shadows, the body looks as flat as a child's drawing.
