joining a group...??

I'm on a mobile device and I see no option to join/like/follow (not sure which term is used here) a group. I can view, but not become a member. Why is this? Does one have to be a paid member? Or have a photo?

Or have a photo?I looked at a group on my tablet in mobile mode and like you I could not see how to join the group, however when I switch to desktop view on the same device the tab to join the group pops up on the sidebar. Hope that helps.
