Naturism in world's literature

Return to Discussions

Is there any discussion already happening on this?
To the best of my memory - one most striking mention of naturism is in Lady Chatterley's Lover by D.H. Lawrence.
Want to know more of world literature.
has it been filmed? How those naturism related shots were dealt with?

RE: Naturism in world's literature

I just published my first sci fi novel a few months ago, Pledge: Book One of the Guild Memoirs. The main character (as well as his mentor) are nudists. The premise is that there are a small number of telepaths who project their beliefs and emotions to those around them thus influencing public opinion and beliefs. These telepaths and the Guilds that regulate them are why the French act French, why belief changes with geography and why you care about things that shouldn't concern you. The novel (and the two to follow) are the alternate but historically accurate biography of a one of this powerful individuals who happens to be a nudist and pagan in New England.
The book has sold pretty well and I've been amazed at how well people took to the nudism casually. I've heard nothing but great feed back on the nudists part which are a HUGE part of the story. I think it's time for more naturists in literature!

If you want to talk nudism and literature, let me know!

With reference to Fratguy1999's story I want to mention the Bengali Science fiction writer Narayan Sanyal's 'Aji Hate Shatabarsha Pare' in Bengali where the subject has been dealt with. However, the writer was not bold enough to be accepting naturism.

RE: Naturism in world's literature

It's funny and unfortunate how few naturists there are in literature. Actually the only major typo in my novel was made by my editor who changed "Naturist" to "Naturalist" because Naturist wasn't a word she and her fellow editors knew. Really pissed me off but only real nudist notice (but I always get a letter when they get to that part of the novel).
Even people writing about naturists are rarely naturists themselves any more than romance novelists are having mad love affairs. It's a sad truth to writing, but fiction rarely mimics the life of the person imagining the story.

Yes, many dictionaries, web dictionaries and spell-checkers don't include words like naturism, naturist etc. As if it is a forbidden word.
