Return to DiscussionsI think many reasons. As a young child, its normal until they are conditioned not to do so. As the child ages, curiosity sets in with other kids. The" show me yours, Ill show you mine" routine. Sexuality then comes into play after that. As we age we like to shed some of our burdens. We find maybe clothes can be a burden and being nude can bring back some of our youthfulness. In some homes nudity is already established. And its a normalcy throughout.
I've often been asked this question and haven't found an answer that satisfies everyone. How do you say you are a nudist because it's the real you, liberated and unconstrained? So I show them. I'll talk about it as opportunities arise. And they do quite often. One workmate asked me How long have I been lobbing it out? Yes he meant to ask how long I'd been a full time nudist. He was already jealous about the many nude holidays I take each year. We ended up comparing notes on nudism compared with supporting a particular football team. Each to their own.
I don't think there is an answer.
I never "became a nudist". It was never a decision, just the evolution based on the opportunity to be naked. I never chose to be baked, I just didn't get dressed when I didn't need to. Mar started going topless in her garden because she could, and I was naked more once my son moved out, and it just evolved.
I still don't consider myself as a "nudist". I just like being comfortable.
I think my wife is correct when stating that being a nudist is something you're born with, it's already a part of you, a part of your genetic makeup. I can remember being quite willing to be naked amongst friends my age and a little older when I was 8. Both boys and girls just skinny dipping in creeks, exploring fields and old abandoned buildings. Spending nights in this old, empty swimming pool, sitting on cardboard naked and talking and drinking Coke.
Being brought up in a somewhat strict, conservative home, I wasn't able to fully enjoy being naked much til I was about 12 or 13. I began sleeping nude when I could and could get away with it and then at 14 when I started HS and I was given my own room, then I was naked as much as possible and slept naked always. It's always just been very much a part of who I am. My wife has a little of that gene. Having a grandmother that was most likely a nudist from the stories that are told.
I became a nudist almost 25 years ago when I visited a nudist campground because I wanted to go skinny-dipping like I used to at the YMCA before it went co-ed and required suits in the pool..
During that visit I came to enjoy the feeling of fresh air and sunshine on my naked body so much that I joined that group and a lot of other nudist groups. I attended a number of nudist events and have even been on nude cruises.
I now live in a clothing optional community where I can enjoy the freedom of being clothes free almost all the time. I dress only when it is too cold to be nude or when I am going into town for grocery shopping or other errands

This is what I'm hoping, not genetics. I enjoy being naked outdoors because I've done it once and it was lovely. Down this path, I still have the chance of getting Mar to join me. She loves being topless in the sun so I suppose I've got further than many husbands.
Let's face it; nudity isn't for everyone or even for the masses. I'm very open about my nudity so I have discussed it with lots of people. Many show an interest but say it definitely is not for them. They may have a body confidence issue or feel their privates are Private or whatever. In my case I always wanted to get naked but didn't dare - a suppressed nudist. I only broke free of my clothes late in life. We all hope to meet potential nudists who just need a little push to get naked. Wouldn't it be great if, all of a sudden, the whole world just threw their clothes off! Alas most just don't have it in them - or in their genes.
Over the last six months I've converted two people to nudism - 1 man and 1 woman. The first stage was to get them to shed their clothes. He did it to share experiences with me. She did it as a nude model. Of course I'm naked too and we were amongst other nudes/nudists. It did not take that long to become relaxed in nude company - to chat and act as they/we would anyhow, ignoring our nakedness.
