Lack of activity

Return to Discussions

Its a real shame that many groups, like this one, suffer from a lack of activity with most postings being made a few years ago.

Indeed. It's easy to miss a conversation in a group, since you have to go looking for them rather than seeing them in your feed. What's the tradition you practice in?

RE:Lack of activity

I agree, I only found your comment by returning to the group which I usually only do occasionally due to the lack of activity. Myself, I was introduced to Buddhism fully in South Korea where I was working in 1992. Therefore, my teaching was of the Zen school and I generally refer to myself as a Zen Buddhist. However, whenever I have the opportunity to visit a Temple of any school I will visit to meditate. I meditate daily (in my garden when weather permits). Love your pics.

RE:Lack of activity

I practice the Sotto tradition from Japan although there is no Temple near me I am a member of a sample on the internet I live as a hermit and for the most part follow monastic rule as much as possible given that I seem to be the only Hermits doing this kind of thing I live in Wisconsin and I as well find everyone's pictures to be just fabulous this group doesn't really do anything and I wish that would change as I could use much Insight in my practice since I am I pretty much solo in my area so any advice anyone would have from a more wise perspective than mine would be greatly appreciated thank you so very much

RE:Lack of activity

I agree with your comment. And I'm as culpable as anybody as there's a lot more I could do to keep this and other groups vibrant and current. However, if a few of us are willing, we can change it up. I'm game.

I lived in Japan for many years but do not practice Zen. I was raised as an Irish catholic and this may be responsible for my eschewing of labels and not belonging to any one religious school of thought, buddhist or otherwise. However, I live my daily life as a Buddhist, and probably follow Tibetan practices more than any others.

My lifestyle as a naturist/nudist is inseparable from my identity as a buddhist. They are both pathways to liberation for me.

I'll try to check back in here regularly to comment and post.

I totally agree that naturism and Buddhism can feel inseparable. I generally meditate and do my yoga Asanas naked and when weather permits, like now, in my garden. It gives a tremendous feeling of being closer to nature. Recently I was on a naturist beach in Spain and I sat naked in the shallow water meditating which was a beautiful experience with other naturists around me. Regarding your feeling of Buddhist complication due to a catholic upbringing, the two can be combined if you so wish. Buddhism is so different to other religions. Buddhism itself is an atheist religion, not believing in a God. But if you wish to believe in a God it does not prevent you from still being a Buddhist. The famous monk Thich Nhat Hanh once said " Buddhism is a practice, like Yoga, you can be a Christian and practice Buddhism. " He went on to say " A Catholic priest told me that Buddhism makes him a better Christian". That goes for other religions too, of course. I, like many others, believe that Buddhism is a philosophy rather than a religion.

RE:Lack of activity

I'm meditating naked almost all the time now. I have a robe I've set aside for meditation and other quiet activities, and used to appreciate the way the sorta ceremonial clothing set aside the mediation session as special. But we meditate indoors, where we seldom wear clothes, in one of the most closed-in rooms, and the robe has begun to seem too sleep-inducingly warm. I mostly use the robe when we are sitting with non-nudist guests.

We're Soto Zen, blessed with an active, hundred-year-old temple in our community; sangha is great when you can find it.

RE:Lack of activity

Hi Steve,
having such an old temple near you sounds beautiful.

As you say, sangha is great. When you can find it. Because I travel widely for my work and live currently in Malawi, I don't have a sangha of fellow buddhists where I live. Similarly, I don't have fellow naturists where I live. Therefore, the term 'cyber sangha' has become part of my lexicon. Just as I interact with many fellow naturists online and share the liberating experience of living a naked lifestyle, I also interact and share experiences with fellow Buddhists online. Much as we are doing now, I guess. It's the reality of my work and life situation right now.

I'm a musician (amateur), and much as I love to play alone, the experience of playing with others is always more enjoyable. I also learn so much more musically when I play with others. Likewise, I find my spiritual development and practice is enhanced when practiced with others. So yes, sangha is valuable and important. However, for now, it's cyber-sangha for me :)

RE:Lack of activity

Regarding posting photos, after saving the post I stayed where I was (not returning to discussion) then upon clicking to upload photos I was presented with a box to drag and drop up to 10 images. That worked for me except that for some reason it seems to have duplicated my images. I only uploaded 2 but it appears to have a set of 4. At least it worked.

Thanks Maig. Re the photos, I'm not sure why it doesn't give me that option to drag or upload them. I am using Safari browser on Mac. Maybe I'll try another browser to see if it's any different.

On another note, I'm glad to see that there are three of us now posting here again over the past days. I will try to start some new threads also, and hope that some more members also become active.
