Halloween is coming!
Return to DiscussionsSunnysideSteve, I guess that, with little judiciously applied body paint, SOME of "us" could pass for pumpkins! Although I have lots of skeletons, I don't think anyone is going to mistake me for one of those! LOL.
Minimalist75, that's a pretty sneaky way to try to improve attendance at a mid-week Mass! I never knew there WERE any saints that lived their lives naked! I don't suppose the Catholic church ever got around to Canonizing Adam and Eve, did they? You could show up to Mass wearing a fig leaf, representing Adam AFTER the fall from Grace, or totally naked, representing Adam's original attire in the Garden of Eden! I wonder how many of the guys that show up in monk's robes will be naked underneath??? LOL. Too bad Lady Godiva was Church of England, not Catholic! LOL
johngw... Wow. Just when ya think you've hear and seen it ALL... along comes something new! I'd never heard of naked SAINTS nor of the Jain religion! Just goes to show you that, in this world, you learn something new every day (if you pay attention!). Thanks for the link. It led me to some VERY interesting reading!
goosej, a totally NUDE Halloween party would be GREAT! Someone (on another thread) suggested "The Emperor's New Clothes" as a possible costume. I LIKE it! LOL.

The Church of England was part of the Catholic Church in Lady Godiva's time, but she is not a saint.

Actually, Catholics are expected to attend mass on November 1, ALL Saints Day, or the evening before.
I just thought of this.
Great time to have a costume meltdown. You know things that are made to last one night. Waist bands breaking. Pants dropping ! Oh being in the restroom naked repairing the outfit. Guys could help or maybe one of the ladies could rescue the pants.
Minimalist75, you're right...on BOTH counts! A little visit to Master Google (who knows ALL!) reveals that Lady Godiva's fabled nude ride through Coventry allegedly took place well before jolly ole King Henry VIII decided to go off and start his own church. So, yes, indeed, Lady Godiva WAS Catholic, although NOT (as you point out) a saint. AND... November 1st is one of the six Holy Days of Obligation, when Catholics are required to attend Mass.
