Return to DiscussionsAnyone getting some nude hiking in yet ? It's just getting warm enough outside, I hope to make it to a park in the next few weeks. I stopped at one of my old favorite hiking places in Marion CO . The park was closed a while for a new bridge and road to be installed, which is now open. They extended the road and installed some pads for RV camping an a restroom. I'm sad that this could put a damper on nude hiking there but there are only a few RV sites so we will see. Also found a Iowa Conservancy site with probably 200 acres just north of Indianola. It gets very few visitors and I'll try it soon.
Forget about the railtrails, they are too busy unless you get out of town a few miles. we've been on the Great Western when a group of naked bicyclists went by and it was close to the trailhead in Cumming just after dark. But if you go south from Cumming it gets really remote. Tell me what county and I bet I can name a couple parks. The county parks are best cause they are not well known and the parking lots are gravel. Most of these trails are not super long and within a couple hundred yards of the parking lot. So if someone drives into the lot you will hear them but during the day these parks get little use.
We have found a county park in Warren County that is fairly safe. It used to be much better but they added a primitive campground last year. But it's little known about and there is no sign for it on the highway. We have hiked there nude many times without contact with other people. As mentioned in a previous post, this place also has gravel parking areas and if there are no cars there, then we know it's safe for the time being. I carry a pair of shorts and she carries a sundress just in case someone would show up. I'm sure there are many secluded county parks like this in Iowa.
The new campsites there have shortened the length of our nude hike but it hasn't put a damper on it all. Instead of hiking from the gate at the bottom of the hill which made for a 20 minute hike back to the pond, we now park in new parking lot at the end of the new camping area and do the shorter hike to the pond. If there are no cars in the parking area, then we know it's at least safe to hike to the pond. Also from the lower original parking area, there is the loop thru the woods that makes for a good nude hike.
