Travelites' Founder's Day report & upcoming

Return to Discussions

Nearly 20 members from not only North and South Carolina and Georgia but long-time members from Virigina made plans to travel to Columbia for the annual Founder's Day celebration. Some arrived before the scheduled event to help beautify the propery. The weather could was fanatastic. The hot tub was enjoyed as well as just sitting on the deck in the sun. There were a variety of snacks including jumbo steamed shrimp, a variety of dips, spreads, chips, and crackers among others. One of our members is a Pampered Chef representative and set up a table along with another one of our lady members who is selling jewelry. Orders were placed, and we all look forward to receiving our orders. If you missed the show, I have the catalogs that you can peruse the next time we all get together. All pledges from the club's annual auction have been received, checks have been cut and will be put into the mail tomorrow.

We left for Doc's Gumbo Grill and arrived to a welcoming staff. They went above and
beyond to make the dinner something very special. The food was perfect. We returned to
our home for yummy dark chocolate cake with raspberry between the layers and home cooked chocolate icing and cherry chocolate ice cream as well as relaxing in the hot tub and more snacks. Thank you all for making this year another great one.

Our next Travelites' gathering will be in Graniteville at Sunair. Some will be arriving
between 3:30 and 4pm to start decorating. Please arrive before dark so we can park with
exiting in mind since there is no outdoor lighting. The theme will definitely be Halloween. Please bring heavy hors d'ouvres and snacks to share. So far we will have steamed shrimp and mini meatballs. Since it is a gated park, we need to know you will be attending. When everyone on the guestlist arrives, we will be locking the gate. Large as well as medium size pumpkins have been purchased for your carving fun. There will be prizes for not only the pumpkin carving but also for the best costumes.

The following event will be our annual Thanksgiving feast including a deep fried turkey on
November 6th in Hopkins. We have a new system of frying the bird that does not need the oil. The club will supply the bird, attendees are asked to bring sides and desserts. So that we have a large enough turkey, please let us know no later than November 1st if you will be attending.

November 20th is our annual Lobster Bash and oyster roast. As well get closer to that
date, I will have the market price on lobsters and oysters. Your received check is your
reservation. This event is to be held in Ridgeway.
