Great snow freehike today!!
Return to DiscussionsWent for an awesome 2-hour freehike in the snow today. Wow that was fun and exhilarating! i followed deer trails from bed to bed though the snow, then hiked up the road to check on a couple neighbors' cabins. I thought I had dropped my glasses jogging up through the deep snow in the picture. Had to retrace my steps almost back to the beginning: where I had set them down at the first stop on my hike! I had such a heat load when I got back to the cabin I stripped and stayed out nearly an hour afterthe sun dipped behind the ridge. The other shot is of me cooling down after the hike while enjoying the sun setting over the clouds below.
I posted this in response to a message and astute comments from leolucbux about my hike pics: "We had a temperature inversion, so it was warm and sunny up here, and cold and foggy down in the valley the past few magical days. Those shots were taken after my hike. We get incredible shadowing at sunrise and sunset from the land- and cloudscape here. In the silhouettes I'm standing at different points on my deck (no railings yet) watching the low-angle sun illuminate the tops of the clouds below...Then as I was preparing to leave yesterday, the same thing happened - except that the cloud tops were just below my house. It was surreal. So I took a couple more pictures yet to be posted. I think you will like them if you liked this set. It was freaking amazing to behold these last few days.
