Snowhike to the top of the ridge
Return to DiscussionsThe weather has warmed and the snow continues to melt. Today I hiked up through the snow to the top of my property and on up the ridge to a sub-peak on the way to the top of the big mountain above us. The wind was variable but not bad even on the ridge. I follow the sun patches up through the snow, watching out for ice on rocks. The spring snow is perfect for freeballing because when the sun is out it reflects right up into where you want it most. The elevation gain is pretty significant so got nice and warm by the time I reached the top. I took off my vest for a bit to catch the sun and have some coffee before heading back down. Check out the view under my elbow. That is the snow covered north cascades.
