Can anyone tell me where the term "commando" originated from?To not wear underwear. The origins for this are either "out in the open" or "ready for action".

I googled and there are a few opinions but military does appear to be a common theme.

It goes at least as far back as the early to mid 1970's. It is a term I associatedat that time the military duringthe Viet Nam War and friends of mine and I used it for going without underwear in college in 1973 and 1974.
