Guitarists
The guitar is the most popular musical instrument in the world. Great guitars are considered a piece of art and demand a price to classify. Most of the music we listen to and love have the guitar as major player. Rock on!
Fender VS Gibson
Return to DiscussionsI have many guitars and basses (including Fender, Peavy, Gibson, Samick, Ernie Ball,etc.)- they each have their own personalities that I use for particular songs/styles. I believe that any one that has to useone specificbrand is not a real musician, unless of course they are endorsed by the manufacturer..... In which case you use the endorsers instrument when they are sponsoring you and your favorite other times.
I have a '54 Telecaster and a new MIM Strat, so for now I guess it's Fender! I wouldn't mind adding a Les Paul Gold Top and moving up to an American Standard Strat once I can play better!
Just had my Tele appraised for insurance, and it's actually a '53 (neck and body both dated January 53). Almost everything is still original and in good working order. Getting it cleaned up (without messing with the patina) and a new setup and it should be good for another 63 years!
All of the above!
If you could only have one... I think an HSS Strat can cover the most ground. But really you need to own at a minimum:
- Strat style guitar (I prefer G&L)
- Gibson LP (or some form of HH single cut guitar at 24.75" scale)
- 335 style semi-hollow guitar
- Tele style guitar (G&L).
Otherwise, don't get caught up in brand loyalty stuff.. it's not like any of us are endorsed professionals, and even they have a slew of guitars from all kinds of manufacturers. We are also in the golden age for boutique builders. There are some insanely talented luthiers out there building amazing instruments.
