This has always been my concern as well. My flaccid size is much smaller diameter than erect diameter. I worry because I like th e weight of metal, but the risk if enlarged would be dangerous.

This was my fear too. I found kind of a compromise.
I got a set cockring and glan ring in blue. Like to wear them at the sauna.

If Im hard, its providing restriction below the glan. But the sweat makes it too easy to slip. While I live the look of it (the set in blue), Im mostly never wear it because it does not stay well in place. Its more inconvenience than other thing. And of course, not wearing for too long of hard.

Though, the cockring, I can have it 24/7 if I want. Found the perfect size.
