First vegetables being harvested...

Return to Discussions

Maybe mine was an early start or I just got lucky, but I've already harvested Everglades tomatoes, green bell peppers, banana peppers, a cucumber and a couple of zucchini ... I hope my luck holds out! The potted vegetables produced all winter and the early spring ones just got started. I have already started spraying Neem oil to deter the bugs as I'm sure they're hungry but maybe I can help them starve this year. We'll just have to wait & see. Is anyone else this far along?

RE:First vegetables being harvested...

My first tomatoes started forming this week, while June-bearing strawberries started ripening last week. Also this year is the first year my asparagus from seed will be ready to harvest. I was very late getting things started - work and travel really messed up planting season. Still working to get stuff transplanted, but it is what it is.

At least this year I am earlier than last year - didn't get any tomatoes in spring; had to wait until fall. Doing a lot of experiments this year, and focusing a lot on tomatoes and peppers - want to find heirlooms that do well here that I like. Successfully overwintered 6 hot pepper plants, so those just got replanted. Got a freeze dryer last y ear, so going to try to grow a bunch and freeze dry much of it, so I don't need to grow everything each year.
