Nudity And Nude Scenes In Movies An

This group is for all those who love seeing nudity on film or TV, either seeing actors and actresses naked or group scenes of nudity. There is often a sexual component to much film nudity. This is about the nudity and body exposure or natural expression of nudity, rather than the sexual intent. It's for a discussion on how nudity in films might have influenced their own views on the naked...

Saw the movie Zootopia yesterday. Cracked me up, although it is an animated movie about animals, there is a scene where they go to a 'Naturist resort' where all the animals are 'nude' and the main character needs to talk with someone there, an elephant doing yoga. The main character cringes at first etc and by the end of the scene it does not seem to be a big deal.
In a way, kind of nice subtle piece that points out it is not a bid deal to kids and adults alike.

It was hilarious! I've seen it twice.
And yeah, it was a cute scene with a lot of truth: we weren't born to wear clothes. Sure, climates can dictate the necessity, but it's not a must in more normal climates, like the area of Zootopia where the nudist resort was operating.

I came here looking for discussion on this. I have a mixed feeling to it. On the one hand,it is nice to see in a big Hollywood kid's movie. On the other hand, it was done pretty much for laughs, but at least it is showing it to a mainstream audience.

I'm inclined to agree with ScareCrow a bit.

The whole scene is for laughs at the expense of naturist/nudist stereotypes. The awkward yoga poses, Tommy Chong as the stoner nudist, so on.
But, there are some subtle points that could be pro-naturism. I'm afraid they are so subtle that they could be lost.

First, there's the humorous commentary regarding clothing on animals. The movie (whether intentionally or unintentionally) seems to poke fun at humans dressing pets to protect them from the elements.

Second, the whole scene pretty much points to absurdity of clothing cartoon animals in movies . It's a bit meta. It's silly to dress animated anthropomorphized animals. Because they act and talk like humans, they must need clothes; they should have modesty. If they weren't like humans, no need for clothes?

Finally, the animal "nudity" is pretty quickly dismissed. The initial shock (to satisfy our puritanical needs) is quickly dismissed in the line of duty. The positive: they addressed it briefly and moved on.

So, I get it. Not really a nudist/naturist endorsement. Yet, not condemnation. And subtle context.
Kids tend to watch the same movie over and over, so maybe it could plant some subconscious seeds that will yield fruit later.

Or, I'm completely overthinking this and giving it too much credit.
