Off Grid Living , Renewable Energy
I am an independent contractor building an off grid home in the national forest. This group is for folks interested in knowing more about the project, but also a place to share your own construction related stories. This group is not only for construction professionals, I would love to hear from everyone who has tried to build something naked, from a bird house in the garage and up. Lets have...
Hi from the Top End, Australia
Return to DiscussionsHi,
Good luck with this project. Seems to me you're in the right place to attempt it with regards to availability of advice/information relating to some of the challenges you'll face. In particular, water conservation and grey water re-use. When we were trying to design our grey water system some of the best advice we found originated in Australia.
We've made our fair share of mistakes and there is still a lot of scope for improvement in terms of sustainable systems we could implement but we've had some successes too. At the risk of sounding smug, we're particularly pleased with our compost toilet system, waterless urinals and thermo syphon hot water system.
We've just updated our eco-project photo gallery on our website so feel free to peruse it for ideas. I think TN etiquette/rules dictate that I can't post a direct link here but you'll find our web address on our profile so just follow the links from there. I'm hoping to update the text pages summarizing our eco-project over the next few days but the photo story in the gallery is done.
We don't sign into TN very often but if you want to bounce ideas around with us then send us a message although a direct e-mail is likely to result in a faster response - again you'll find our e-mail address on our website.
Good luck guys and keep us posted of progress.
