Only For Those Who Want To Talk ( W

lots of groups out there that people are just joining, this is for being a part of. real conversation.

Hi everyone. My system won't allow chat, so I'm generally just checking what different groups have to say and add my two cents worth. I'm not sure how, or if, this group is supposed to be different, but time will tell, I guess.
Meanwhile, I just added a post to the Anti-poverty group about an initiative here in New Brunswick, Canada. There have been discussions to try to find the causes of poverty, better know its effects, and recommend possible solutions. If anyone is interested, I left the details in that post. Whether there or here, I'd like to read your comments.

RE: Conversation?

It appears that there are not as many in this group that like to write as there are that think they do. I do thank you for trying to get a conversation going. Don't give up. It could still happen.

Hi Badger,

I added a different thread called Update regarding poverty. You may want to look at that.

Essentially, I wanted to see what people thought about the reasons poverty still exists even in developed countries. While the poverty may not always be as abject as in the developing world, it's strange that we would send aid to the poor in other countries (which I have no quarrel with, really), while ignoring the poor we have here at home.

Some may say these people should have made better choices or better prepared themselves. I say we all make hundreds of choices everyday. Some benefit us, some are costly. But most of us at least have our heads above water. And limiting this to a matter of choices ignores such factors as mental health, learning disabilities, how the attitudes of parentsaffects the importance a child will give to education or his sense of being able to do better, the lackof building and workplace adaptations forpeople with handicaps, the intergenerational nature of dependence on welfare, etc.

I like to give credit where I think it's due, and I find the process which led to a Poverty Reduction Strategy in New Brunswick came to a very interesting conclusion, recently. For the longest time, governments kept the welfare/minimum wagesystem in such a way that, for too many poor people in New Brunswick, leaving social assistance was simply not an option. This seems to have been recognised in the final statement. Furthermore, the plan will be to get government, business, social organizations and the citizens themselves involved in various local initiatives to work at reducing poverty as much as possible.

On the other hand, it is also known that with the anticipated retirement of a LARGE number of baby boomers over the nextfive years or so, employers will be hurting as there may not be enough QUALIFIED workers to replace those who are retiring. Some say that even if tough economic times continue, the unemployment rate will drop because there just aren't enough younger people entering the workforce. While immigration can be part of the solution, it would also make sense to find thedisenfranchised people and help them integrate into the working force. The question is, how should we go about this?

There, how's that for a start?

RE: Conversation?

To talk is to express ones self in form of written art.. Any way i love to talk about any thing in general and like to talk about where i am living and what daily things happen in this little redneck part of the woods that i live in... Hunting is upon the area now in full swing and it gets realy nuts here with the oarnge and trucks driving around. Ha ha ha seems like some love the dress up part of it and not the sitting in woods and hunting. Me i have not joiined the sport for a long time because of time restrictions and such. Any way happy tuesday.
