Why does my television set need a little red light to tell me it is turned off? I think I already have a couple of good clues. no sound, no picture.

RE: red light

I don't know about your TV but with my mine if you are watching say a Blu-ray on HDMI port two and turn off the Blu-ray player the screen goes black. I have literally left the TV in my office for two days because I turned off the player got distracted and saw the screen was black and have assumed TV was off when it wasn't. So yeah I am glad there is a light on it.

It's so you can find it in the dark.
But seriously It isn't turned
off, it's on standby. Turn off the power and the red light goes
out, preventing you from finding the ON button in the dark.

Mine has a little green light when it is turned on, and no light at all when it is turned off.
