My cell phone is an iPhone 5 and there is no self-timer. But I have downloaded apps that allow for a self-timer. But the resolution of pics taken through the app is low. I carry compact cameras with me all the time so there's no problem taking selfies. I also carry a monopod all the time so it's easy to take selfies.

All my self pics on here are from that. And yes it is amazing what these phones do these days.

I have an timer app too. Works great.
What do the rest of you use to hold the cell phone since there isn't a mount hole for a tri-pod? When I'm out hiking I've tried small bunge cords. They don't work too well.

I have various apps for self timer. Camera Timer is one that I use. I suggest you take a pic with one of your apps and then you download it into your MacBook and you see what the megabyte is. I assure you it's smaller than when you use the camera without the app. It's the resolution that I complain about. While I use my iPhone 5 for many photos - e.g. taking pics of my food or other common things, when it comes to a lovely photo, I'd rather use a proper camera. My compact cameras give me a pic of 8mb. That enables me to blow up the pic or use just one small part of it. I can't do that with the iPhone pics. I hear some Samsung phones have cameras with better resolution but frankly, I'd rather just use a dedicated camera for pics.
Eldernude, if you want a holder for your phone, use this. It can be attached to a monopod or tripod and it can be used on almost any phone in the market. It's quite cheap. It came free with a monopod I bought for only about SGD 12.00. That's Pound Sterling 6.00
Here's the photo of the phone holder for monopods and tripods. Photo was taken with iPhone 5 and so it isn't that sharp. LOL
