Return to DiscussionsI done the London naked bike ride about 10 years ago, it was good until we got to around Covent garden, then everything bottle necked and was just sitting there queuing up and had a lot of people staring and laughing . When we got to the finish line I got given the flag and got photos crossing the line, ibwas on their page holding the flag. Photos are on my page of me holding it
I've mostly great memories of the times I did the ride, but I do remember a couple of points like you say when things come to a stop and there are spectators with cameras right next to you. Not so bad when you are riding past but can feel a bit vulnerable esp for the women on the ride I would imagine. At one such point I remember a young woman in the crowd pointing at my crotch and exclaiming to her friend then she whispered to her and they both started laughing. In fairness it wasn't the warmest that year and cycling makes me shrink anyway but I felt that was unnecessary!
It's a great ride but you have to be prepared for the crowds and the cameras!
The following year I was undressing in Hyde park, I'd got down to my undies and was waiting for a few more people to be naked. When I took the plunge and pulled my pants down a flash went off from some nearby bushes. Someone had obviously been waiting to get their shot. Again, to be expected to a degree but that's the kind of thing that I'm sure puts people off riding subsequent years.
These days I care even less about that sort of thing than I did then, I'd love to do another ride sometime but am always busy around the weekends the main UK rides happen.
