24th July 2011 - Morfa Dyffryn Although I have no vehicle of my own I do get about on public transport. Looking on the Internet I found a day return on a Saturday to Dyffryn Ardudwy was 47.90 pounds, yet a day to Shrewsbury was 16.70 pounds and from Shrewsbury to Dyffryn Ardudwy was 16.50 pounds thus saving over 11.50 pounds. It certainly pays to shop around. Things ran reasonably smoothly until we reached Machynlleth where we had to wait for 15 minutes until the first half the train was detached to make its way to Aberystwyth. The outdated Class 158 DMUs are not really made for the Cambrian Coast but we did make up time in places.rnrnThe weather was quite sunny with hardly a cloud in the sky and those were out at sea, the temperature reasonable too!rnrnHaving alighted at Dyffryn Ardudwy Station with the platform long enough to take all three coaches, it must be said it was more like a halt than a station having no passing loop but the second platform was still in place if overgrown. At the end of the platform was an unmanned level crossing with both pedestrian and vehicle gates with a pub on the right hand side in case refreshment later. Having downloaded a map of the area courtesy of Streetmap I proceeded to walk the direction of the beach on an un-metalled road. I walked about km before coming across another gate into the Dyffryn Seaside Estate, this was locked with padlock and chain but access was available at the side for pedestrians. The way into the Dyffryn Seaside Estate is via the Benar Road (Ffordd Benar) further down off the A496 Barmouth to Harlech road. The Dyffryn Seaside Estate had all the amenities to cater for their own static caravans and chalets as well as the campsites around them for tourers and tents.rnrnThere is a little flat land between Dyffryn Seaside Estate and the sand dunes and there is another gate which leads to a footpath after while there a path leading off along the side of the dunes I decided to carry on towards the beach. The dunes are soft going but I did get across them. I could not see the sign for naturist sunbathing so I proceeded northwards along the beach, again the going was soft so I removed my trainers and socks and moved closer to the water line as the sand seemed firmer. As I saw the southern sign warning of naturists my apprehension and fear seemed to melt as I saw naked men and women standing and lying around. I walked about 150 yards and found a spot to place my towel not being too close to anyone. I first thing I did was to have a drink after my long walk especially the effort put in crossing the dunes. I wasted no time at all in removing all my clothes as if I was in a communal changing-room. I placed my backpack at the head of my towel for a pillow with another towel over it to soften the roughness of the backpack. I placed my trainers on the bottom corners of my towel as the wind light was blowing it a little. I then started to spray myself the sunscreen as I did so I looked around and saw most people had brought windshields and were probably here for more than my day out. I sprayed sunscreen almost everywhere apart from the middle of my back as I could not reach it. I lay there soaking up the rays all over my body without the restriction of swimming trunks and it felt good, better than I had expected without any twinge of nervousness. I lay on my towel for about half an hour and decided to go for a paddle, just then a couple about my age starting setting their windshield not too far from me. The sea was certainly colder than the air temperature but was refreshing. One chap was walking into the sea and by the time I finished paddling he had gone a fair way out and only his head visible, he was a braver man than I would be on the day. Upon my return to my towel I greeted to the couple as they erecting a small tent which were dotted along the dune line. They had been coming to the beach for the last 24 years and it had been the further they had come from the sign. They were has white as I was so I assumed it was their first visit this year. I lay down on my towel and did some more soaking of the rays. I totally ignored the fact that we were naked and those walking along the shore line were naked or clothed. It was a shame that I was on my own, company would have been better. I had another half an hour flat out and went for another paddle and again another guy went out into cold water, he was trying to encourage his dog to go in but the dog was not having any of it, and I would not blame it. This time while I was paddling along the shoreline I reached the northern sign warning of naturists, such a short stretch of beach, why not longer? Perhaps it would not be so crowded at the southern end. There was a guy with a tent and groundsheet so I stopped to have a chat. Why had no one thought of providing facilities closer to the beach especially for the naturist? I wondered back along the sand near the high tide mark as it was better to walk on than the soft dry sand closer to the dunes. I had the need to go to the toilet, so on reaching my towel I hastily got dressed and packed my things in my backpack. Making my way back across the dunes was a slow proceed and previous. I saw two guys sunbathing nude in a hollow between the dunes well outside the notices and I do not think they cared. I found my way back to the footpath and started walking towards the Dyffryn Seaside Estate, there was a pub called - The Country Inn perhaps I could used their facilities. I could not just blatantly walk into their toilets so I ordered myself a pint of Carlsberg lager and drank a quick as I could, which was not the best thing to do having just walked across the dunes. I used their facilities and left, I could have had another but it may have meant looking for more later! I had an hour to kill before my train and could not see the point in returning to the beach so I had a look around the campsite and looked of the highest quality I even called in at reception for a brochure. The Dyffryn Seaside Estate seems the best place to stay if you are travelling by train as it is halfway between railway and the beach, (sorry if this seems like commercial with them getting so many mentions). On the way back the Class 158 DMU did struggle to climb the incline after across the estuary from Barmouth, we were delayed at Towyn because of the lack of passing place and had to wait for train to get to the station before we could go. If the train to Birmingham from Aberystwyth had have been on time most of us would have missing our connection at Machynlleth but it was 10 minutes late. It seems that they factor a few minutes into the timetable for the Welsh hills. Once over the border into England they can gain time arriving in Shrewsbury only a few minutes late and getting to Birmingham on time for my connection home. Would I go again? Yes, most definitely. Will it be this year? Possibly, certainly next year and for a longer stay, days or a week.rnrnOh, the sun did catch my back where I had not reached with sunscreen and it is red but not painful, thank goodness. 20th August 2011 - Morfa Dyffryn I managed to pay a visit on the 19th. I tried to be clever and walk further up behind the dunes from the Seaside Estate but still had to clamber across the dunes, which is tough going up them. There weren't too many people on the beach, I think I counted about 12. The weather wasn't too brilliant and was probably keeping them away. Again I couldn't put suncream on my back and it turned red. Three people ventured into the sea but when I tried it up to my knees it was colder than the last time, brrr!rnrnAfter a considerable time sunbathing au natural I did feel the odd spot of rain and decided to move back into the textile world. As I was positioned halfway between the signs I decide to walk as nature intended to the southerly sign, to which I put on my shorts and walked down the shore and not across the dunes to the boardwalk. I would definitely recommend it and not trample across the dunes. I put on my socks and trainers and walked to the toilets on the Seaside Estate and changed into full textile. Again I must thank the Seaside Estate, just for being there!rnrn29th September 2011 - Morfa Dyffryn I got to there for the third time this year and what a brilliant day it was on Wednesday and the temperature looks like being warm until the weekend. I wouldn't say the beach was packed but I managed to find a spot two-third the way up. Glad to see a few more of the opposite sex enjoying a bit of the 'au naturel' than before.rnrnWith the temperatures considerable higher than my previously two visits this year I did venture into the water a little deeper but only up to my waist, it is still too cold to stay in too long!rnrnDrying off fairly quickly, no need to towel off with the sun beaming down and no wet trunks to dampen the sensation, one can put up with fine grains of sand getting everywhere.rnrnThree glorious hours just weren't long enough before I had to make a move but again I did walk to the southerly sign as nature had intended before donning my shorts. I did remove them and put on my shirt and trousers before reaching the boardwalk onto the Dyffryn Seaside Estate no knowing the toilets may be open but they were on reaching them, ah, never mind!rnrnIt is definitely on the cards for a longer spell than a day visit next year, weather permitting!!rnrn10th June 2013 - Days Out and Holidays. It has been a while since I last reported about my escapades. I will have to go back to September of last year, in fact 6th when I ventured down to Studland for the day. I made the journey by train in three and half hours to Bournemouth Railway Station. Having looked on the internet to see where the Bus Station was in relationship to the Railway Station to my surprise it was across the road. I also looked for which bus service went by the beach again the internet being useful the Wilts & Dorset bus company run a No. 50 Breezer service to Swanage. The bus service takes anything from 50 minutes to an hour depending on the chain ferry service which crosses the mouth of Poole Harbour. There is a bus stop right next to the pathway which leads to the beach. I asked for a return to Jerry's Point (FRP6) although the stage fare is to Goathorn Farm which then cost 6.90 pounds. Having walking to the beach and sited myself a good distance south of the path it took approximately 15 minutes from the road by this time it was about 11:30 am. It was quite a pleasant day with the sun shining and I had about five hours trying to get an all over tan however at the end of the day I just went red. Forward to this year and I decided to book two weeks in Fuerteventura in May and in particular the Hotel Fuerteventura Princess. I had booked the 11th - 25th May as It seemed to be relatively cheaper than at other times of the year and the fact they had a naturist area complete with pool. On arriving and checking at 09:15 pm I decided to have a drink in the hotel and I was entitled to an evening meal, late but needed. I was off to find my room, given instructions on how to find it seemed long winded as I later found out in the following days. I was given a map of the hotel ground so on the Sunday morning after breakfast I found my way to the naturist area. There were about 70 sun-loungers in the area with more than half around the pool. The others were placed around the path leading towards the sun terraces for ordinary sunbathers. There was a service road in a semi-circle outside the hotel grounds with a metre high chain link fence marking out the hotel boundary and there were some naturist sun-lounger lining the fence. I usually sunbathed from 08:30 am until 12:00 pm and then it was time for a liquid lunch. It must admit the local beer 'Estrella' which was more like a lager was cold and refreshing had no sparkling or taste and expensive at 3.30 euros for 500 ml, however they do not stint on the Bacardi when a Bacardi and Coke costs 6.10 euros. It was a liquid Tea of two 500 ml of 'Estrella' before going back to my room to get ready for Dinner and another visit to the Bar afterwards. With all this liquid intake I did not get drunk just well hydrated. I managed to get burnt on the inside of my left shin on the first Friday with two blisters, one went down of its own accord and the other burst and split open. On the Saturday I stayed in my room all day and applying 'Sudocrem' to my leg and buying 4 cans of 'Bitburger' lager yet again no taste. The room maid came knocking at 03:00 pm and saw my burn and said the best thing to apply to my leg was natural Aloe Vera. She left the room and came back a couple of minutes later with a cactus frond of Aloe Vera. I cut a piece off and applied piece to the open blister, it did have a cooling effect. The next day, Sunday, it did not deter me from sunbathing again with a towel covering the left shin. The temperature for the whole of the two weeks were in the low to mid 20s but on the final Friday afternoon I came away early because it was getting too hot for me to stand. As I had an afternoon departure from the hotel I was going to sunbath all morning but only lasted a couple of hours and again it was getting hot. There were a couple of overcast days in the first week but no rain to speak of.rnI would thoroughly recommend the hotel for its service and its food. I could have had a five course breakfast of which I had two, and five course dinner and only had three as I was on half board. I did not want full board which would meant going back to the restaurant in the main building instead of the visiting the pool bar at the main pool. I would definitely go again.rnI have recently visited Studland again this year (8th June) to top up my tan and another five hours of enjoyable sunbathing. The train fare had increased by 2.00 pounds and the return bus fare had gone up by 20p. Only this time I went to the north of the path to lay my towel down. There was quite a few people there and not as crowded as September 2012 perhaps it was too early in the season and then another visit may be on the cards if we have a better summer than last year. Been to the Fuerteventura Princess from 2013 to 2017 when the naturist section was changed to adults only section so it was on to the beach for all over tan. 2018 and 2019 I holidayed at Hotel Vera Playa Club on the Costa Almeria in Spain. Sadly no trip this year due to covid-19. Now covid is over I have been on holiday in 2021 and twice in 2022. looking forward to 2023 for more all over tan.
