Solair

I'm thinking of becoming a member of Solair in Connecticut after visiting there a few times last year. I wanted to get peoples opinions on the club if they think its worth becoming a member. Also, maybe hoping to meet some friends that might want to meet up at Solair when the weather gets nicer

Nudism is the Great Equalizer. It is impossible to put on airs when one is nude.-- NudeInMA<br>

RE: Solair

It has a great reputation. It's also member-owned, which means that if you join, you're part of the team, not just a dues-payer. Have a ball!

RE: Solair

I went to Solair for the first time this past autumn and had a wonderful relaxing time. So much so that I just contacted them to reserve 3 weekends camping there this season. For me however becoming a member is actually a waste because I live on LI but if I was closer I would also consider becoming a member. Lets us know when you'll be there it might just be one of the weekends I'll be there and we can say Hello to one another. Gary

In your email, did you state your credentials? Some times emails don't convey it all. You might consider giving them a phone call.

I've met a number of Solair members over the years. There have been nothing but good reports.

Currently living in a clothing optional community where I am nude when I can be and dressed only when I have to be

RE: Solair

Solair was the first nudist club I went to over 15 years ago and was a member there for a number of years until I moved out of the New England area. Obviously I thought (and still think) it was a great place with nice facilities and very friendly people. Little did I know on my first visit that I would come to embrace the nudist way of living.

We were there twice in the late '80's. Very nice place, extremely friendly staff and members.

Great Place

I spent some time there last year and enjoyed it. I plan on joining this summer when I heal from a surgery I had. Real nice people up there you can help but be relaxed.

RE: Great Place

Although Solair is a great place, before subscribing to membership anywhere, get out and visit a few other places, you may find one that suits you better, or find out that solair is the place for you. Being in ledyard, there's two other places closer to you that you could investigate too. Different places have different amenities, different flavors of people, different environments. (and different membership rates). So shop around a bit. they do give you four visits before requiring membership

We've been to solair and on a crowded day, people although nice are all on top of each other, our feeling is that Solair is very compressed physically with the pavilion pool, clubhouse and beach. But that's our opinion.

RE: Great Place

So far I have spent 2 weekends and one full week there during this summer season and as always had a wonderfully relaxing time. The folks there are now getting to know me and I was even invited to join in at a card game one night. I would consider joining as a full time member but being some 4 hours away from where I live it doesn't make sense. Do look into other locations though before joining as Snuggle mentioned just to make sure Solair is the place for you. By the way I expect to be there Sept. 5th - 11th.

RE: Great Place

Hopefully, we'll be at Solair in a couple of hours. I think that some do not understand the membership requirement. I believe there are two types of memberships; full and associate. A full membership actually makes you a "stockholder" in the club. An associate membership gives you unlimited access w/o day fees. But... you can still go for day visits. First timers have a special rate of $45 for the first four visits in a season. After that, I believe AANR members go for $50/couple, non-AANR members is $65. So, if you're going for a limited amount of days, it probably doesn't pay to become a member. Correct me if I'm wrong.

RE: Solair

I was a member of Solair for several years when I lived in Conn. It is a great facility, beautiful woodlands and a WONDERFUL group of people. Although I'm in Pa. now an a member at White Thorn Lodge, I made friendships at Solair that will endure a lifetime. You'll know if the place is right for you after a few visits. Best of luck..........

Solair

I live in the west, but am fortunate to be able to travel quite a bit.  I have had the pleasure of several visits to Solair over the past 15 years or so.  Lovely place, great people!!! If I lived in the area, I would absolutely put Solair on a very short list of places to consider joining.

RE: Solair

We spent 10 hours yesterday (Aug 6) at Solair and had a wonderful time. They have a beautiful swimming pool, large, hot jacuzzi, and dry sauna. They also have lakeside swimming and sunbathing and rowboats and paddle boats available to use (no additional charge). At 3:00 PM they had an open social; at 6:00 PM they had a chili cook-off contest (more than both of could eat for $10), and a live band for dancing from 8 to midnight. When we left at 10 PM, there were several people swimming in the heated pool. Overall, an excellent place for day visits, weekends, and long-term stays.

Depends on how often that you go there. If you don't go often, it's probably best to get a AANR membership at another club and use that to get into Solair. If you are a member of another club, you can go as often as you want. AANR has a gentleman's agreements among clubs not to actively raid other clubs of members.

RE: Solair

AANR has no agreement re: raid other club's memberships. AANR is a national organization. Club managements don't usually raid other club's members.

However, there's nothint that prevents you from moving your AANR membership from one club to another.

I thought an AANR club couldn't actively recruit members of other clubs to join them. If a person wants to transfer to another club on their own, that is OK. But one club can't say we offer so much more than your club, join us. All I know at Solair is that if you are a card carrying member of another club, you don't have a visit limit and you don't have to meet with the membership committee.
