What do you think about tan lines?

Okay.. First, I have been a nudist for nearly 40yrs.   I'm pretty open and understanding of all the different attitudes and cultural issues in different places.

BUT, recently, I was at a nude swimmming hole and someone said to me that having tan lines shows I'm not a real NUDIST ?!   Now I admit I "propagate" my tan lines becuase I am a blond haired male over ... errr... lets say 35, and am usually white as the driven snow which I live in 9 months of the year.   If I had NO tan lines, people would think I had never been in the sun before. So I like to have a little bit of a tan line around my middle.   Not farmer tan lines, but regular swimmer tan lines...

So does that make me any less of a nudist?    I was slightly insulted after having thought about it for a day. Though it could have been too much sun on the brain that day.   Thanks for your comments.

Anyone who judges someones level of nudism due to their tan lines or lack of, is really a little insecure about their acceptance of nudism!! If you want tan lines...wear them proudly!! Being a nudist has only to do with you!!!

Really? Tan lines ? I have to admit I have joked around with other nudist friends about tan lines, just teasing a little, and have had the same done to me, but really, out side of joking and teasing a friend, tan lines have nothing to do with it.., Mnay nudists due to time constraints don't get the chance to be nude in the sun as often as they would like, ie work, family, textile friends, no private yard, ect ect.... it has nothing to do with tan lines, more to do with a desire to be clothes free and a state of mind.

I'ts already been said, tan lines making you less of a nudist? No way. Just means you've been out in the sun wearing something. I got my first set of tan lines this year by going to a ball game and sitting on the bleachers. Does this make me not a nudist?
To me being a nudist is a mindset. You prefer to be nude, for whatever reason you are that way. Nobody can be nude 100% of the time. But oh wouldn't that be nice if we could. I'd love to be able to mow my yard in the nude, but the law doesn't allow that. So should I cover up completely? Of course not.
Tan lines happen. Always will.

Gee, I guess that person would think I'm not a real nudist because I've only done it at home for the last 40 years... I have no tan lines, because I tan all over. The joys of a tanning salon. :)

I'm relatively new to the world of organized nudity, but I kind of thought it was about being comfortably naked in your own skin, not about judging someone else's body and tan lines or lack thereof.

We have full fledged nudist friends that have tan lines. Their ability to be naked all the time, like us, is hindered by older kids still living at home and have requested that they remain clothed because of visiting friends. They also have family and friends that do NOT announce their arrivals or call before just dropping over ... so ... they usually need to jump in the car and go into the hills for some alone time and naked time.They are also building a private deck for sunning but they've stated that so many people ask about it's "privacy" aspect. It's tough for many to have the privacy and the ability to be naked ALL the time. We currently have a situation that may hinder our being naked out in our backyard for a while until our landscaping matures. We now have NEW neighbors. Our previous, accepting, neighbors moved and sold the home. The new neighbors seem nice but ... who knows how the attitude can change if they see us naked. The plan is to talk to them when we get the chance.Some nudists worry or are consciencious of their tanlines ... I don't think most nudists give it much thought. I think most of us are just glad they are there and partaking ... even though these people may have actually been nudists for longer than some of us! LOL

I haven't had any tan lines my entire life. BUT, tan lines absolutely do not make the nudist! I tend to agree with those who have commented in the rest of the thread. Just enjoy and don't worry about the unfortunate mindset of others.

I've had my mustach for almost 30 years. After I retired ... I grew a beard, not allowed on the job. I had the beard and mustach for about 4 months and then decided to shave it off ... ALL of it! When I came out of the bathroom my wife looked at me and said ... You've got a tanline! My upper lip was pretty pale in comparison to the rest of my bod! LOL My dad saw me without the mustach, asked me why I shaved it off and then sternly said ... "grow it back!" LOL I did as I was told. My wife and grandkids were glad! Some see tanlines as sexy. One females, especially, their aerolas, nipples, buttocks and pubic areas (ALL thought to be sexual portions of the body) are exaggerated by the more pale skin color. For me, personally, I don't think there is anything more sexier/nicer than a full tan without tanlines. It shows me that the person sporting a no tanlines tan is openminded, progressive, unafraid to venture into areas most people won't go ... besides ... it also shows that they are one of us! LOL I don't dislike tanlines. Even those that sport them at nudist venues ... I admire. At least they've come to check it out, try it, join in and whether or not they adopt the lifestyle ... at least they are willing to strip down and join in.

I don't like them especially on me, but if you have to wear clothes or even shoes/sandals while outside or driving a vehicle, you are likely to have them.

One of two nudists with whom I've been acquainted over the years, wear "something" if only a watch to see the darkness of their tan.
