Boulder pumpkin run

It`s been reported that the police were determined to crack down on the run this year, on the grounds that it causes alarm and affront to the crowds who turn out in the cold and dark at 11pm to cheer the runners on.  Any news about what happened in the end?

They would be hard pressed to find anyone in attendance at the Run who would claim to be "offended" by the sight of naked participants, inasmuch as there is little reason for anyone to be out at that time of night in Boulder other than to watch the event.

Here`s the "official" website: Welcome to RE-NUDE, the Naked Pumpkin Run Website. There is no info on the site re the results of yesterday`s event, but that will be the place to look for it whenever it`s released.

Just the religious right making sure that no "unapproved" fun happens.  They`re the ones complaining.

Nevertheless it seems that the risk of arrest and the threat of ending up on the sex offenders` register was enough to stop the run going ahead.  Damn shame.

The heavy police presence appeared to deter full participation in the annual Naked Pumpkin Run, where people streak down the Mall wearing nothing but carved-out pumpkins on their heads.
Around 11:20 p.m., three people with jack-o-lanterns on their heads ran down Pearl Street, prompting officers to descend on the area. But the three people covered what they needed to cover to be within the law.
Many people walking downtown Saturday expressed frustration at what they called police over-reaction, even as they said it would be up to party-goers to make sure there weren`t any problems.
Jill Rahall, dressed as a unicorn, said she was angry at the police response and hoped that lots of people showed up for a "crazy, but peaceful" Saturday night.
"I hope a lot of people come out, just like they do every Halloween, and they have a great time, and it`s peaceful," she said.
Some used their costumes to poke fun at the police, including two people wearing jack-o-lanterns on their heads in reference to the Naked Pumpkin Run of recent years and SWAT vests over their shirts.
Michael May and Gerry Callejo carried naked, inflatable men with jack-o-lanterns on their heads and a sign reading "Free the Pumpkins" on their backs. Beckner, watching from nearby, cracked a wry smile.
"The absurdity of how the police reacted needs to be mocked," May said later.
Huntley said that as of 2 a.m., there had been one arrest of a person who became uncooperative when police approached him about an open container violation. Huntley said she doesn`t know yet how many citations were issued, but the number was relatively low. Most were for disorderly conduct and open container violations.
No nude pumpkin run this year.  Having been a participant many years ago.  It is sad.  But the nude bike ride in the summer still exists... until someone complains about that...
