On Tuesday morning the original first-order Fresnel lens of the Fire Island Lighthouse returned to Fire Island for the first time since it was removed in 1933 and lent to a Philadelphia museum. It was transported in 31 boxes by a caravan of National Park Service vehicles from storage at the William Floyd Estate to a Fire Island National Seashore building for restoration. It will then be installed in a new display building adjacent to the lighthouse. A dedication ceremony marking the new building's completion is expected for some time in July.
