Off Grid Living , Renewable Energy

I am an independent contractor building an off grid home in the national forest. This group is for folks interested in knowing more about the project, but also a place to share your own construction related stories. This group is not only for construction professionals, I would love to hear from everyone who has tried to build something naked, from a bird house in the garage and up. Lets have...

Volunteer on our eco-queer farm in the beautiful natural park of Sao Mamede, Portugal!

Return to Discussions

Embark on a volunteer adventure at our clothing-optional, queer, permaculture farm in Portugal! Picture yourself immersed in nature, cultivating connections with like-minded individuals on our 5.5ha farm, most of which is wild forest - and our 3ha vineyard for wine enthusiasts. Of course, we produce our own electricity, have our own water source and most meals contain ingredients from our two vegetable gardens, the budding food forest and our land.

We've opened up the calendar for 2024, and plenty of weeks are waiting to be filled! Last year, we had nearly 90 awesome volunteers join us. Want to jump in on the fun and be a part of the magic this year?

During your 5-7 day stay, you'll gain permaculture, wine-making, building, and gardening skills while reveling in the liberating experience of rural life. Choose between a cozy single room or embrace the outdoors with a tent on the landaccommodation is free, and we share hearty meals in our vegetarian/vegan space.

Engage in four hours of farm work daily, usually in the mornings. Activities include harvesting olives, fruits, and grapes, planting trees, tending vegetable beds, weeding, pruning, landscaping, and even getting hands-on with natural wine-making and vineyard management.

Expect the company of two to three others on the land, plus three dogs, two cats, and a lively cast of wildlifefrom boars and foxes to wild cats and mongooses. The birdlife? It's a symphony of nature.

Our farm is not just a place to work; it's a social hub. Join lunches and dinners with the local queer and queer-friendly crowd, and dive into the vibrant alternative scene in the area.

The farm is conveniently located 2.5 hours by car from Lisbon, with two daily direct buses from the city. Alternatively, explore travel options from Madrid to Valencia de Alcantara.
