About
Gunnison Beach is one of several beaches that are part of the Gateway National Recreation Area in northern New Jersey, located on Sandy Hook, a six-mile-long peninsula across from the entrance to New York Harbor. Sandy Hook is known for exceptional beaches, wildlife, and fishing. Gunnison Beach, overlooked by the historic Sandy Hook Lighthouse, has dramatic views of lower Manhattan and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. Nearly two miles of Gunnison Beach is legally recognized as clothing-optional, with official signs and full lifeguard and police protection; it is the largest clothing-optional beach on the Atlantic coast of the US, and draws more than 5,000 visitors per day on most sunny summer weekends.

Wonderful beach, get there early, bring your patience, weekends are insane, weekdays much better. Beware, they are working on the bridge.. major bumper to bumper leaving the hook.... bring your patience.... Please respect the "Carry In Carry Out Law" that means take your trash home, please do not leave it by or in the bathrooms.
Proseating and bathroom facilities available... the sunsets are incredible, life guards, friendly folks
ConsSome people don`t respect the carry in carry out law... the traffic because of the bridge construction, Never enough warmth and sun time in the Northeast... lol

Just some additional information: You can bring a cooler onto the beach, No Glass, You can bring drinks (but please don`t get wasted, you have to drive on the road home), wonderful trail to walk if you enjoy a nice walk also bike trail off the road shaded somewhat, runs the length of the hook.. i think 6 miles (?), Some of the best Sunsets off the Bay Side (Ft. Hancock), just turn left out of the parking lot and you can`t miss it, pack some wine and cheese and sit on a porch... enjpy.. Please remember.... Carry In, Carry Out....
Prosyou can be alone with Nature at any given moment....
Conssometimes the tourists mistreat the park and have no regard for rules or consideration of others...

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/30/nyregion/30naked.html?pagewanted=1&sq&st=nyt&scp=6 Nice article about the beach. Took our son there to introduce him to nudism and after about 30 mins felt very comfortable because of the friendly people there that he talked with. He didn`t want to leave...
ProsNice beach, friendly people, easy to get to, nothing hidden
Constraffic jam leaving the beach at sunset... but worth it...
