About Gunnison Beach
Gunnison Beach is one of several beaches located on Sandy Hook, a six-mile-long peninsula at the north end of the New Jersey shore, extending into New York Harbor. Sandy Hook, a unit of Gateway National Recreation Area, is known for exceptional beaches, wildlife, and fishing. Gunnison Beach, overlooked by the historic Sandy Hook Lighthouse, has dramatic views of lower Manhattan and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. Nearly two miles of Gunnison Beach is legally recognized as clothing-optional, with official signs and full lifeguard and U.S. Park Ranger protection; it is the largest clothing-optional beach on the Atlantic coast of the US, and draws more than 5,000 visitors per day on most sunny summer weekends.
Directions to Gunnison Beach
Garden State Parkway Continue south on Garden State Parkway. (When Parkway divides, use either the Express or Local lanes, whichever is better for traffic conditions.) Take Exit 117 onto State Rt. 36 south (follow sign for Gateway National Recreation Area). Continue on Rt. 36 about 12 miles. Nearing the shore, watch for sign "Sandy Hook / Gateway National Recreation Area next right" just before a drawbridge. Immediately following the drawbridge, an exit ramp to the right crosses back over Rt. 36 into the park

Gunny is a great place to meet people. We spent most of the summer there. When the wind is out of the west flies can be a problem. BYOB

We never been to a nude beach or even ever been nude in public before. It was awesome we didn't know if we were going to be able to bare all but really wanted to go and give it a try. The hike from the parking lot was hard. Wish they had the blue carpet trail to the beach a little bit longer. Walking without shoes hurt my feet due to all the broken shells but once you make the hike in it is great well worth it. I was only on the beach for maybe 10 minutes got our chairs set up and the coolers and was able to feel right at home and get the top off. After another 5 minutes I went for the bare it all and off came the bottoms. I am a woman with curves and never felt confident about my body, but once I got there no one seemed to mind what my body looked like. Then I knew the real test was if I ws going to be able to walk the beach naked. Only after about an hour and half we took that stroll down into the water. I didn't want to go home.. It truely was an awesome experience and now we are looking for all kinds of resorts and clubs to visit. Let us know what is around in the area!!! We really want to explore nudism and make new friends with other nudist.

The long hike into the beach. They do have a walkway at the beginning and then a blue carpet but once you are off that it makes it harder to walk

I'm thinking of heading up Monday for an afternoon on the beach and then a late lunch before heading home. Any insiders tips? This will be my first trip to gunnison.

I went there more than twenty --maybe twenty-five--years ago. Just loved it. Excellent beach. Sand flies were a nuisance. Slept overnight on the beach and don't you know an electrical storm creeped up at about 2 am. Fortunately, the men's shower room was open for protection. And the next day, the weather was excellent. Great place. Great memory.

Yes I loved it when i went nude in gunnison, It is not too far away from where i live. We should have more and more nudits come too nj.. Great place too go nude. But I love it when it gets hott. at the beach. and the lifegards look.
