Feb 24, 2020Im a fan of the 1911. Unfortunately, I dont own one. Yet. My goal is to buy one later this year chambered in 45 ACP. Rock Island Armorys GI series is appealing, except for the sights. I want 3 dot sights for a better sight picture. Im also leaning towards a 4.25 barrel. The two models that fit my criteria and budget the best are the Sig Sauer Nightmare(Fastback) and the Ruger SR1911 with a black finish. Im not sure Ill carry a 1911 due the the weight and size. But, if it was good enough for a soldier to defend himself with, it should be good for anyone else.

Aug 22, 2020I havent acquired any handguns this year, so far. Prices are inflated and ammo is sometimes scarce.

Aug 22, 2020Thanks for the reply. I hear you on people going nuts lately on buying up guns & ammo that they had never wanted before. I found me a Springfield Armory Mil Spec 1911 back in Feb. at a gun show for under $500. Haven't had any problems with it so far. I did take the time to polish the feed ramp just for S&G's, though.

Aug 23, 2020Sounds like you got a good deal. Youd probably pay at least $150 more for that firearm right now.

I wasn't really looking to buy one that day, but for the price point I decided to go ahead and get it. Got a few magazines for it from another vendor, too.ReaccionarResponder - LA

Feb 15, 2021A 1911 is the next pistol I will buy. I love the gun and my goal is to buy a Colt that looks like one carried in the military. I also want a nylon od green holster.

Feb 16, 2021
my goal is to buy a Colt that looks like one carried in the military.
Most ALL 1911's in stock form look like the ones carried by the military(when they were carrying them), regardless of manufacturer. So it won't make a difference in appearance if it is made by Colt, Springfield Armory, Rock Island Armory, Remington, ATI, etc. As long as it has a parkerized or blued finish and no exposed stainless steel and unneeded engraving, then it will still LOOK like the military issue 1911. Colt WAS NOT the only company to make them for the U.S. military during WW2, as they weren't able to keep up with demand at the time. Some of the companies mentioned above also made them to the same quality specifications that Colt was held to. ALL of the parts from ALL the manufacturers had to be directly interchangeable with each other without the need of a gun smith to make them work properly.ReaccionarResponder - JE
Mar 2, 2021I am kind of a 1911 junkie. It is my favorite pistol platform by far. There are many good quality and reliable brands available it just comes down to your budget and what "look" you are after. Mil-spec or stock is always very popular for the traditional crowd and there are mild improvements available on most of the models such as sights, hammer, grip safety, grips and mag well opening. After that you start getting into performance and aesthetic upgrades like match barrels, higher perf sights, perf finishes and material construction. Then at the higher levels you get into semi-custom and custom build guns built by specialized gunsmiths with significant cost.
Most people go by budget and appearance as most guns these days are good, reliable, functioning arms.Brands that I have had experience with are (in no particular order), Springfield, STI, Dan Wesson, Kimber, Norinco, SVI, Nighthawk, Brazos, Les Baer, RIA and many more.
If you know specifically what type or price point you are looking for I could give more specialized details on options in that category.
Happy Shooting!

Dec 6, 2021Ruger is a relative newcomer to the 1911 game, but they do make a pretty good one.

Dec 8, 2021
Live a 1911, I have a Ruger SR1911
Ruger makes some really good firearms with the exception of the one pictured below, I don't know what rounds it is chambered for, but I guess that doesn't matter given the description of it.ReaccionarResponder - LA
Mar 17, 2022
Mine
That looks like it is bare steel with no kind of finish on it at all. What's up with that? Other than that, it looks pretty nice.ReaccionarResponder - MIMiembroJun 3, 2023
Have a Smith & Wesson SW1911 and a Colt Series 70. Both fairly recent.

Jun 3, 2023I have I believe 5 1911-type pistols, in 9mm, 38 Super, and several in 45 ACP. I finally got one that is a 1911 not a 1911 A-, I love my single-action pistols. I don
't know why people love Glocks, I've never owned one or even fired one. I've had many dozens of handguns over the years, from single shots to semi-autos as well as revolvers. I like them all, as I get older I tend to prefer handguns over rifles because they weigh less and are easier to transport.ReaccionarResponder - NU
Jun 3, 2023Just an update, I added 2 1911s since I last posted 3 years ago. A Cimmaron 1911 in 45 ACP (not 1911 A-1) amd a Tisas in 9mm.
