Drove past the entrance of Blind Creek yesterday
I was in Ft Pierce doing some errands and decided to drive by the Blind Creek entrance to take a look.
A few observations:
There is a lot of curbing in the lot with islands. While it looks pretty, it greatly reduces the amount of parking spaces. I am sure the curbing is to keep people from parking in and damaging the green spaces.
There is a pre-fab building being constructed in the west (road) end of the parking lot. Is this where the rest rooms and showers will be? If it is, it will mean walking or driving across the parking lot, obviously not nude, to get to the shower or restroom :-( The only reason I can think of is if it is on a septic system it may have to be a certain distance from the ocean, or if it is connected to a sewer system the drain lines may not be able to have the necessary pitch to drain properly. If this is where it will be, it is still better than what we had which was nothing except porta-potties
From what I see, the December 1 opening date looks possible, but considering the progress, or lack thereof on this project, I think it is unlikely.
While I could not enter, I took a couple pics from the entrance.
Thanks for the update. It doesn't make sense to have the restrooms so far from the beach. If you need to use the restroom, you'll have to cover up to go there. While I'm glad to see progress being made, it certainly is taking a very long time.
If it is connected to a sewer line at the street,
The minimum slope for a drain pipe depends on its diameter: (1/4) inch per foot for pipes 2.5 inches or smaller,(1/8 inch per foot for pipes 3to 6 inches, and1/16 inch per foot for pipes 8 inches or larger. These minimum slopes are important for ensuring proper drainage and preventing clogs by allowing the water to carry solids along
Assuming a 6" diameter pipe and the trailhead being an estimated 400' from the road, this would require about a 50" drop. (1" per 8' , 4008=50) Since in Florida there is no risk of the ground freezing, water and sewer pipes are not buried as deep as up north so it may not have been feasible to have it by the trailhead.
If it is on a septic system:
First off I suspect that the county would prefer to avoid that since there would be maintenance (pumping) required and I am sure there is a bunch of EPA and DEC regulations regarding placement, design and maintenance.
As I stated, its not the best, but a whole lot better than what we had.

Even at Haulover you have to cover to use the restrooms. Surprising since you can buy lunch and get to the showers without cover. Again possibly a sewer issue.
December 1 and parking lot not open yet.
Here is the latest from TCN 12/1
"Hi Mark,
TCN & BLIND CREEK BEACH HAPPENINGS
Update on the Parking Area Construction
We wish we had some definitive information to give you, but we don't. The latest update from the county as of last week was "approximately the first week of December" for opening of the parking lot. As soon as we have more news, we will send a separate email with an update."
From what I have read in previous TCN messages is that the county is not very good about updating the progress on the project. TCN has to pry information from them.
To quote a line from a great old Paul Newman movie (Cool Hand Luke) " What we got here is a failure to communicate"
It seems kind of a shame that there is/was not more open communication between the county and TCN, being that TCN represents the majority of the visitors to BCB. I may be wrong, but I don't think that TCN was consulted about the initial design of the lot.
Hopefully it will be open soon.
Several hours later this arrived from TCN;
"Hi Mark,
UPDATE ON THE PARKING AREA
12/1/25
We just received an update from County Parks & Recreation. Unfortunately, the parking area WILL NOT be opening this week. Construction is not yet completed and there were a couple of setbacks. Once completed, there are a lot of agencies that have to sign off on the project before the gates can be opened.
We will provide you with another update next week.
We were once again asked to remind beachgoers to STAY OUT of the construction zone!"
Thank you Mark for the update. So difficult to get updates from them. I drove by two weeks ago as well now that i live in Ft Pierce and it is going agonizingly slow. I read that this project started in December of 2024. 1 year to pave a parking lot WTF?
Actually I believe the start was delayed until January 2005, but it is going on a full year.
It was originally supposed to be done in July, then September, then November, then first week of December.
You would think they were building the Taj Mahal
I should set up a poll, if I knew how to do it.
Sometime later this year or early next year, they should break ground on the new Buc-ees on Indrio road.
It will be a huge convenience store with
73,000 to 76,000-square-foot retail space
120 gas pumps
18 to 20 EV charging stations
Nearly 800 parking spots
A 100-foot sign.
Who thinks that it will take about the same amount of time from ground breaking to grand opening that this parking lot is taking.
Personally, I think it will be close.

Government construction projects often take a long time.
