The Purpose of Life

The purpose of life is not to be happy.
It is to be useful
to be honorable,
to be compassionate,
to have it make some difference
that you have lived and lived well.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

RE:The Purpose of Life

Beautiful words but if I was going to add something I would say, "if you do all of this, it will bring you happiness or contentment" . These words are similar to some writing my late wife wrote many years ago, maybe even before we got married. She was a thinker and a writer and could express herself very well. I've read lots of her writing, pretty much everything I could find since she died 4 and half years ago, she is still teaching me. My partner now has read some of her writing and made the comment my wife had life worked out a long time ago.

It may be a little different or vary a bit for individuals but generally these words still ring true.
