I'm "certified" but a non-paying member. I went ahead and sent two pics in to be certified, but still don't understand how this has made me a better "nudist".

I have tried to be certified. I have published pictures with the sign and paid the fee but I am still not certified

Nothing is foolproof but it does give an indication that you fit the profile which you have loaded with respect to sex and age together with showing that you are comfortable enough with nudity to provide a naked photograph.
For example, it makes it more difficult for an old man to pose as a young woman.
