the terra cotta

Wel we just got back on monday from a weekend in palm springs. this was our first visit to the terra cotta (old or new). we never stayed at the old terra cotta, which is a long story but basically because of their prior business model concerning reservations. so we decided to try the new terra cotta and did a tour back in december. so not having any prior visits to the old terra cotta i can't say its back or better.

so, to begin we arrived on friday around noon and it was already pretty packed, and barely found a pace to put a couple of chairs. a travel group was there along with day passes. one thing that we noticed on saturday morning is that folks left their towels overnight to keep a claim on a chair. we were not used to that as most other places discourages this practice. so we now know not to give up out spots. saturday was completely sold out with hardly a place to put a chair.

they have done a lot of work since december. the lawn is in, and a lot of flowers. the grounds seem to be kept up nicely. the rooms had combination locks on the doors so you don't have to have a key. the room we were in was nice and appears to be well maintained. there is plenty of parking and we did not have a problem finding a spot.

they have installed misters around the pool which helped during the day on saturday and should really help during the summer.

on the whole we had a very pleasant stay there.

RE:the terra cotta

Great, glad you had a good time. One of the reasons Di and I don't go on weekends ... just too crowded. I do not like the whole saving your spot thing overnight. At the old TCI, the late housekeeper used to pick the towels left on lounges and take them to the laundry. You could go into the office at 8 am and pick up new ones.

Now ... having been a regular, we had usually kept the towels from the day before and I would go out there around 6:30 am and put our towels out and surprisingly, there were usually already towels on lounges. I don't like that game but it's something that is actually quite common at many resorts.

Hope to bump into one another if you decide to return! ;D

We will be in Palm Springs for "2 weeks" of Baking in the Sun, as of this up coming Thursday, and are so looking forward to it.
its always nice to see some Honest reviews on this site, from couples or singles that actually get out, to the various Resorts, and then post their observations of their own experiences.
We just wanted to chime in on the weekend crowds at the resorts, and the people that leave their towels out, in order to secure their Lounges for the next day.
We also are not Fans of the Weekend Crowds........I guess, if we were Drinkers and "LOUD" Party People, we would enjoy the weekends and fit right in.
But....we come for the Peace and QUIET that the resorts have, from Sunday afternoon and right up till Thursday night......and we love that.
Once Friday afternoon rolls around......that is when, the resorts get Swarmed by the Weekend Party Crowd....who are all looking for 2 days of SUN, and for their own kind of "LOUD" High Schoolish type FUN.
Hey.....each to their own, but.....the Party / Drinking crowd is definitely not our thing, and not what we come to Palm Springs for.
Due to that type of Crowd or Group, we usually leave the Resorts on the Friday Morning and don't return till the Sunday evening......once the resort, has returned to its usual Peaceful setting.
We do not begrudge any of the resorts, for trying to make a Buck....by attracting what ever crowds they need to Lure in... in order to pay their Bills, and in order to stay in Business.
We just won't be staying any where, that tolerates or promotes being Party Central come the weekends.
We always find it Funny.....that here we are.....Paying through the Nose .....while adding to the resorts Profit margin, by committing to them Financially... for an entire Two weeks......yet......The Party Couples that show up for just 2 days, or Party Couples that come in on just a "Cheap" Day Pass......are allowed......to Disturb and put a Real Damper on other peoples Peaceful Holidays.......by acting like Kids, who have absolutely no consideration for anyone else, but themselves.
That basically sums up the Weekend Crowds, at any of the Resorts.
For that reason alone, we prefer the much Larger Resorts, that have designated "QUIET" Pools, or Resorts that have 3 or more Pools to pick from......and that way, you can always find some Peace and Quiet, away from the Party people.
This brings us to the Towel thing.
First off, nothing annoys us more, than people who can not Pick Up....after themselves, while at any Resort, or even in just a Hotel room.
I guess, if people are Slobs at home....then they will certainly be Slobs at the Resorts and Hotels.
Its these same exact people, that leave their Towels out on their lounges, and the same lounges that they dragged from the Pool Deck, to another part of the Resort, will just be Left there...for some one else to Pick up after them.
They leave Plates and Cups and Garbage out, once again.....expecting someone else to clean up after them.
Like WTF?
We can only imagine what their own Homes, must look like.
From what we have seen.....most of these people are not Securing their chairs for the next day.....they are just too Frigging Lazy or Drunk......to remove their Towels, or to put their Lounges back, in a Neat and orderly manner...just as they found them.
They paid for their "CHEAP" Day Pass or for their 2 day weekend......and they expect.....someone else, to pick up after them.
Sad!
As far as picking out your Favourite Lounge and Favourite Spot around the Pool goes....We will bring our Towels out in the "Early" Morning.......and secure our Lounges for the day...Before.....we head out for our morning Run.
We find that most of the Drinkers and Party people , don't ever Drag their Butts out of Bed, until 9:00 AM the "EARLIEST" ( Especially on the Sunday Morning ) .......and this is the reason......that they try to save their Lounges, for the next day....by conveniently "Forgetting" their Towels on their Lounges, from the previous day.
We agree.......that this Selfish practise, is not Cool at all.
First Come.....First Served......would be the polite way, to secure your Lounges in the morning.... and as they say....."If you SNOOZE"......."You LOOSE".
People will be People......and Kids will be Kids.......if they are allowed.
You can't really blame anyone, besides the Resorts.......for these people leaving their Towels out....All Night Long.....on their Lounges.
If the Resorts don't remove the Towels, while rearranging their Lounges, at the end of the day....this type of thing, will always happen and take place.
We do agree, that the Weekend Crowd.......is something that you should really try to avoid, if you are wanting to actually enjoy your little "Get Away" to the Sun.
But on the other hand, if you are looking to be included in a scene from "Animal House"....the Weekends at the Resorts.....will be perfect place for you. lol
Its good to hear that you guys went to the "New" Terra Cotta, and enjoyed yourselves, for the most part.
We sure do still MISS..... the Old Terra Cotta and everyone there......"Big Time"!
Unfortunately......some things do change......but.....the "WEEKEND" Party Crowds.....will always remain the Same! LOL
We still LOVE Terra Cotta and its Owners!
They are the Nicest People, that you could ever hope to find.
If anyone hasn't been to Terra Cotta yet.....you really need to Book some time there!
We are sure, that you will Love it as well.
