First-Time Advice/Recommendations

Heya, folks!

Wife won a trip to the Lake Powell for work for later in August. Have never been (clothed or not), very excited to spend a long weekend on a houseboat. Curious about all the fun there is to have, anything in particular you recommend to first-timers or wish you had known or done the first time you visited, etc. Thanks in advance!

(Alas, we're not expected to be able to strip off, given our company for the trip. Anything's possible, of course, so, fingers crossed!)

We are still lake powell virgins as well.
It looks and sounds amazing and we can't wait to experience it as well.
No dates planned yet but soon!
The escape is much needed!!

You will love it! What Marina are you leaving from and then I can give you a bit more advice. The primary thing to remember is find your beach early. If you do not beach by 11am you will have slim pickings. We move early in the morning and have been able to secure some awesome locations.

Turtle Beach is an awesome place and only one boat can beach and it is gorgeous. Plenty of room to play games, swim, sun you name it . Primarily watch the youtube video on boat operation and safety. Nothing screws up a trip like an injury. Buy your supplies at the Safeway in Page much cheaper than at the marina including ice. You will have a chest freezer that can hold 12 bags of ice and runs on the inverter as well as refrigeration.

Nudity is common on the lake, so no surprises their remember etiquette never beach next to another boat unless invited. You should not be close enough to tell the sex of the person on the boat. Just people moving. If you can see them then you are too close.

Dean will chime in on this as he has navigated the entire lake and can give you some awesome marker numbers to great locations.

Its also nice if you are able to and if you have them - tow a boat or jet skis (some houseboats have jet ski hoists). Its easier to go off the main channel looking for nice beach areas. Then bring in the houseboat only when you've found a great site. A tow boat is handy too for emergencies, ice runs, fishing, etc. We pull our 18 footer and its perfect.

Good thoughts/advice, thanks for chiming in! Looks like we'll be launching from the marina in Page, so I'll be sure to try to suggest that supply purchases be made at that Safeway rather than at the marina, if the opportunity presents itself.

Not sure if jet skis will be a part of it (though that sounds awesome), but we'll almost certainly be doing some surfing and wake boarding, which I'm excited to do.

You have to purchase supplies at Safeway as the Marina (Whaweap) outlet is closed, the only place to buy groceries is Dock N Stock and they are outrageously expensive. Just to give you an idea 6 of us on the lake for a week I will spend 500.00 in food and beverages at Safeway. You can also rent jet skies and tow it behind your houseboat. Depending on how many you have on the boat and for how long your tanks will fill quickly so keep that in mind too. Houseboating is glamping/camping so one must be prepared. If you have any more questions please ask away!!
