Forgot to mention this before, but another male couple was designing a cabin in the woods for their retirement home.
It had no closets or space for dressers in the sleeping area. They intended to keep all of the clothes they would need in 2 or 3 storage bins.
They were also planning a clothing burning party for sometime between their retirement and moving dates.

Makes sense to get rid of wardrobes you do not want, especially if you are moving, provides lots of extra space

Is a wardrobe in your definition a tall piece of furniture with doors used primarily for clothing on hangers?
Did you also have a bureau or chest of drawers before you retired? If so, did you keep it or get rid of it?

We have just a handful of clothing items and footwear left that we wear only when necessary - for protection from the elements, protection from hazardous tasks & for societal requirements in public. We did have a clothes burning party when we both retired.Did you reduce your clothing supply to your current low levels at the bonfire or gradually over time?

You mentioned on another thread that you got rid of your dressers.
It would have been a dramatic ending to the party to burn the dressers too.

Yes a wardrobe is a tall cuboard with doors and hangers, you probably call them a closet, still got the dresser as my wife uses it

Did she take over most of the dresser when you got rid of a lot of your clothes?
The few couples who have mentioned getting rid of closets and or dressers are all male-male couples so I guess it is easier for men than women to substantially reduce the amount of clothing they have,
