Art or Porn?
The naked human body, all its parts and functions are "decent"! It is hard to say what would be "indecent" in a naturist/nudist environment! Desplaying and flaunting an unwanted erection maybe or masturbating in full view of everyone, could be considered "indecent"! "Indecency", just like "modesty" are man-made concepts, they do not exist in nature.
Is porn art?
Short answer:
Yes. It is, by definition, intrinsic in its design and effect, objectively a form of art. It expresses eroticism, which is a valid subject of expression and communication and has been a staple of the arts throughout human history and communicates sexual desire.
Pornography is a form of art.
Long answer:
In order to really answer this question, one must first assign art an objective definition. Two common sayings I see thrown around these circles is that Art is in the eye of the beholder and I know it when I see it. The sad reality behind this dichotomy is that they contradict one another when applied to the broad spectrum of expressive mediums as a whole. What was considered pornography to ancient civilizations can now be freely viewed in museums and is invaluable in understanding both human nature and those societies. Even now, we witness this even today, with appeal to sexual or erotic interests being used as both a means to satisfy and enthrall the audience. Its up to the individual how they wish to perceive it, and this is something that cannot be disputed.
Another common definition people like to give art is usually based on a criteria of qualities, as in it has to be expressive or thought provoking at the very least. Excluding pornography from that criteria on whether those thoughts youre trying to provoke being undesirable or offensive, or geared towards satisfying a specific need is grossly and abhorrently disrespectful to the artists and beholders, as well as just plain wrong and unnecessary. Why cant we say the same thing about violent media, such as video games or horror movies? Their main goal is to appeal to a specific emotion that many would argue can be just as offensive as appeal to sexual arousal or deviancy, if not more. Same with music, television, and other forms of expressive media. Such a double standard is unnecessary and actually detracts from the truth that all forms of expressive medium, are artistic in their own way, and actually robs audiences and artists alike of their right to define, express, explore, or communicate that which is something that, in all honesty, they have every right to.
Arguments against classifying pornography as art simply cannot seem to address this without completely missing the point of art entirely.
OK, taking this further, when is art porn
I feel that the point here is going to get overrun by the pictures you're showing, Jeanne. True Nudists will at some point see what you're posting in here as porn, regardless of what any of us want to call it, and get the whole discussion knocked off.
These last three pictures are very much pornographic and as such are not allowed here. Their artistic merit will mean nothing if they get you banned, and I think that would be a damned shame because I appreciate your openness, both in your words and your beautiful other pictures. It would be best if you delete these three and keep your sexy freight train on the rails.
So, for the sake of the thread and because we are where we are, I will say these pictures have proven that art can certainly be pornographic, and that pornography can certainly be artistic. But once the orifices have been breached, the art becomes something our website considers unacceptable.
