Recent Forum Activity Listing

I am not sure this is the correct place to ask or offer this suggestion, but here goes...
On the home page is a 'Recent Forum Activity Listing' that lists about 10 (I'm not hopping back to count) recent forums that have had someone comment. Is there a way to expand this list either through my own account or in general? Ideally, a user should be able to select the amount (within reason, of course).
I find I often check the listing to see if there is anything of interest to me. I only wish it would cover more items than it does.
P.S. Yes, I'm rather new here. :)
