Headlights...

I've been thinking about getting a bright headlight so I can see to ride at night. Some are quite expensive and put out a lot of heat for a small LED lamp. I thought they operated at a much lower temp than a standard headlight like you would find on a car. So far, I have seen lights operated by a battery pack which only lasts a few hours if the light is on maximum brightness and a few with generators or dynamos. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good, inexpensive light for occasional use. I don't intend to be out at night for long trips on my old bike.

Thanks,RabbitnBunny. I have one similar to that now.
It's very bright if you're looking into it, but it doesn't light up
a dark road much...
Has anyone tried the Sahara with 5 LEDs and a rechargeable battery
pack...

It can also be used on a headband, or so they say...

Got mine at a bike shop. It wasn't all that expensive but I don't remember what it cost. It works great. Don't forget the real light. If you get on to roads at night those are vital for drivers to be able to see you.

unless you want a car light headlight go on ebay they have some great deals and a lot of the LED over the old style bulb.

Update: June 3... I decided to get the "Bright Eyes" 1200 Lumen, light pack and the diffuser lens. Awesome bright, even on the medium level... seems as good as a car headlight... Now, we'll see how long it stays that way. BTW, the diffuser lens makes a big difference in what you can see, without noticeably dimming the brightness.

Kohaan, I like the light that you got. I originally got an Ion2 from Bontrager, but it eats batteries, typically having to replace them once a month. I recently went to rechargeable batteries, so I will how that works out.

I will be testing it out tonight at the WNBR. Is
anybody else going to a similar event? ... BTW I also have a
good tail light that has a bright red strobe flash with multiple
LEDs... almost looks like a police car. ;-)

Report: It worked better than expected, even on the lowest of
3 -non flashing- settings. The ride lasted about 2 hours,
then the ride to the after-party involved a DARK, paved bike trail.
There were a few riders with NO lights at all riding
ahead of me about 10 feet and level 1 provided enough light
for all of us to see where we were going. ... of course we were not
going very fast on that trail, but - I don't know how other people
without lights negotiated that trail... So, the light lasted at
least 2.5 hours, including about 20 min of level 2, and showed no
signs of giving up. ... I have been told, however, that this
light will run at full strength until just before the battery
quits, so there is really no way to tell how long it will last ...
until it suddenly quits. 8-
