Many of us want male friends with whom we can share openly without...

Why do you assume all their online friends are gay?
Some of us are homosocial without being homosexual. Just because I like to hang out with men and even be intimate with male bonding doesn't mean I want to have sex with men.

The question is to my mind rather judgemental but I suppose I also could be accused of being likewise in my comment. It is just that I feel we gain much by accepting people as they are. The question suggests presumption. Perhaps a straight bloke in a loving relationship with their life partner feels more at ease being an online friend with other males. After all it is a little difficult to have internet sex.

I'm not assuming their online friends are gay. I've checked the profiles of various guys like this and their online friends are either gay or also have exclusively male online friends.

Greetings & Salutations, Before i express my opinion .. i just want to say that i respect your opinion and do not judge it... but allow me to play devil'sadvocate - .. .. why the quotes around straight? I'm guessing that you're not taking their word for it? So the real question here is ( and again just asking ) ..why does it bother you:1) what someone labels themselves? and 2) who their friends are?I never really stopped and thought about it, myself i just take people for who they are

What's everyone else's impression of users indicating they're "straight" but all their online friends are men?Another related question might be "Who cares what others think about the people on their friends list?" Labels are more useless than useful and what does it matter what people call themselves or who they chat with?

I think this is one of those "things" that people are getting anxious about with NO REASON WHATSOEVER.
There are more people on TN who identify as Male than as Female. I tend to worry more about being seen as "coming on" to a woman than I am as coming on to a man. If you want to worry about it, count it up to statistics.
Carry on ...

I believe labels can be most unhelpful, even dangerous as we can get a wrong impression of someone, simply because of thelabel. Most people are multifaceted. Most men, if they are honest with themselves should love being with men as much as being with women. Yes, there are those who prefer men over women and the reverse. That is what makes for an interesting world.I like the bejinks term 'homosocial', its more inclusive. I like to think that is me.
