Google remote shutter or bluetooth shutter for your camera model (e.g., "Nikon D5100 remote shutter"). That will make it easier to get into position before the camera takes the photo, since you can control when that happens.
Some years ago I was able to purchase a self-timer attachment for a camera I had at the time. It clipped onto the camera and could be wound (something like a kitchen timer). That was before digital, so I don't really know what's available out there now. However, if you Google or check on Amazon you may be able to find something.

Many smartphones....I have an android, have a voice shutter function where if you say a key word (d.g. cheese, or smile ) it will trigger the shutter.
