Never been - What's the best time to visit for a first timer?

Return to Discussions

Hey everyone, so I live in the SW Virginia area, I've known about White tail for years but can't seem to ever give myself the time/finances needed to make a trip up there, be it for a weekend or a full week getaway. Planning to change that soon, hopefully if nothing else just a weekend sometime this summer.
But the thought just occurred to me - what's generally the best time to go visit? As in, when is it typically busiest, or I guess sort of crowded. In general I'm not a huge fan of big crowds, so I'm not asking with the intent of it being like shoulder to shoulder busy (doubt that even happens lol) but busy enough that I can find people to actually talk to, mingle with and just get an overall great new experience.
I suppose the other main reason why I'm curious to why it's busier and there's more people to talk to and interact with is after going through the events and other things in the resort itself, I'm kind of afraid that I'd end up getting bored just sitting around.
Any suggestions/feedback greatly appreciated.

On their website you will find a date during the summer where they open up the resort to anyone who wants to come. I've been during that time and it's busy but not overcrowded. Plus there are lots of new faces. They also have a beach fest which I think is super busy. I'd assume, though, that most weekend in the summer are active.

Oh yeah, there's also a nude 5K coming up. You should consider going then. I'm planning a visit for that.

I do get their newsletter, but haven't looked at their calender lately to see what events were being hosted, I'll check that out. Would be nice to find some locals who happen to go to the resort and just aren't on the site really, I imagine they'd either show up there or Avalon, if at all.
I'll check out the dates for the 5k as well, see if it's doable or not. Thanks for the suggestions!

Out of curiosity, how far is the resort from Virginia Beach? I'm thinking of possibly doing a couple days at the resort, then throwing some clothes back on and visiting the beach for a couple of days as well. I don't know why, but I always thought Ivor was in northern va, not eastern. Geography isn't my forte apparently lol

White Tail is approx 1 hour drive away from Va Beach, just past Suffolk on 460. If you are a first timer it might be wise to visit during the week as it isn't that busy. There is a free pass that you can use for your very first visit and then pay the normal fees after. We will be staying there over Father's Day weekend in one of their campground spots.
Good Luck to you

I keep repeating this, but if you're going to visit White Tail once, you should definitely make it during Beachfest weekend. The open house days are nice too and you can get a free pass if it's your first time, but there is so much more going on during Beachfest and a lot more people there of all age ranges from all over. And if you want to avoid the crowd, white tail has adequate space to just sneak away to yourself. I went alone last year and was quickly taken in by a group of people my age and we partied the night away. I will be going back every year. I'm not a member or promoter for White Tail, but I had such a good time there that I recommend it to everyone in the area looking to try out white tail or make friends in the area.
