About Eastney Beach

This has been a naturist (i.e. nudist) beach for decades. The local authorities have quietly tolerated the practice, even to the point of erecting a warning notice (to whom it may concern) to the effect that bared bums may be encountered on the strand ahead. QinetiQ is the freeholder of this area of land located at the south-eastern corner of Portsea Island, incorporating this beach down to mean high water mark, previously part of Fraser Range. Qinetiq now has approval on an outline planning application to build three large blocks of flats, 131 apartments, directly overlooking the clothing-optional beach, although they have yet start demolishing the existing radar station. The city council has struck a deal with Qinetiq that is meant to guarantee public access for 80 years. But nudists still claim the firm will kick them off. Qinetiq says it will guarantee public access. The Qinetiq issue has gone quiet in recent years and roamer has it that it may have fallen through.
