Encounters with the law while driving nude?

I've only driven nude for short distances. I read of others driving long ways on road trips. What is the risk? TELL US OF ENCOUNTERS WITH THE LAW while driving nude. I hike naked all the time and occasional encounters don't bother me. But the law patrols the highways. Are there specific laws you break while driving nude?

RE: Encounters with the law while driving nude?

I've not been driving nude for long and have never had an encounter with the police. Where I live there is no law against either driving nude or public nudity, but there are laws about indecent exposure. They require that the genitals be exposed when you know or should know that someone may take offense or be alarmed. That's all probably open to interpretation. If you're just driving and covering your lap any time someone might see you, you may not be breaking the law. But if you have to get out of the car for any reason you might be in trouble. I suppose a cop might also think simply that if you're driving nude someone "may" take offense or be alarmed. Also, cops may not know the letter of the law and may simply think if you're nude you're indecent.

All that said I drive naked, but I reduce the risk to near zero. I drive at night on two lane country roads. I have deeply tinted windows. My lights all work. I obey every speed limit and road sign, I pay attention to other cars and keep my distance. I have something to cover my lap. I sit on a robe. I take clothes in case I need them. You get the picture. It would be a very rare event for anyone to know I'm naked, police or otherwise.

I was sat naked in stationary traffic just feet from a traffic cop. He totally ignored me.

RE: Encounters with the law while driving nude?

I've never had any encounters with the law. I see police and
emergency vehicles often enough, but I'm careful about speed and
other traffic laws. I always keep a pair of shorts next to me
that can be slipped on in a few seconds so I doubt if I'll ever
have to explain being naked to a policeman that stops me. I
will have to be mindful about the barefoot laws in some states,
tho, because I love to drive barefoot.

I started driving nude many years ago and approached the whole
thing very cautiously. I've been the naked driver with naked
passengers and with clothed passengers, and been the naked
passenger with naked drivers and clothed drivers, but mostly I'm
alone. I think it's really important to have something to
cover your lap for buses, vans with kids, etc that are passing your
car, but I don't worry about vehicles going the opposite
direction, and I no longer worry about big rigs at all. And I
drive a fairly small car.
Hope you can figure out a way to do it safely, because it is an
extremely comfortable way to drive, and I think I stay more alert.

I've searched a bit for news items about police stops of nude drivers. I've found articles about 100 mile an hour speeders, criminals, drugs, alcohol, intentional lewd exposure to children and others, etc. I've not seen one that is simply about someone, otherwise acting legally, being stopped just for being nude in a car..
