Soap Box.

Just a place to let off steam. I know we should look on the bright side, "glass half full" and all that, and I know it does work (up to a point) but I've always felt that all you optimists are really just kidding yourselves, and effectively putting your heads in the sand. Looking back over the last 30 or 40 years and seeing how the human race is developing, I can't help but...

I didnt start really using the chat room until the mods were put in place because there was just too much arguing. Lately I have really enjoyed the chat room because it is fun and light hearted and gives a chance to speak back and forth without waiting on a email response. But it seems that it is very hard to get a conversation going sometimes, even with those on your friend list. Sometimes I have seen people ask a question, or post a hello and never get a response in a room full of chatters. Seems odd that on a site full of people who claim to be accepting and friendly of everyone that so many people can come in and say hello only to have a cold shoulder turned toward them. Hopefully Im making too much out of this and its just my imagination.

RE: Conversation

Thanks for that advice. I like the comparason with a crowdwd room. I wondered why I couldn't get on with the Chat Room. Maybe if it was split into smaller rooms (say on particular topics) there might not be so many trying to chat over each other.

RE: Conversation

Hey blue, it is SOOOO good to see you in chat when you're there. But, other than in pm's it is difficult sometimes to keep track of the many different conversations that occur. Often I miss people saying hello and vice versa. And sometimes it's just a matter of getting used to all "chatter". It's kind of like being at a large cocktail party where no one is broken into little groups. And all are conversing at the same time. Usually small talk, occasionally important stuff...seldom terribly deep. It's a social hour, friendly banter (for the most part) and comraderie. For the more meaningful conversations I stick to the forum and group postings. Chat is just a nice place to unwind, joke around, welcome new members and sometimes meet face to face (via cam) those I've met elsewhere on the site.

I realize you posted this over 4 months ago and that you've become a little more accustomed to chat now. Really just posting this for the benefit of any one else reading this.

Jen
p.s. If it ever seems like I'm ignoring you in chat...I'm really not! Modding has taken away some of the fun for me and I'm usually being slammed with pm's, keeping an eye on the cams and watching the chat flow in the main room. You know I love ya!
