I’m going to try and post a panoramic photo of what the starting line of a glider contest looks like. Powered aircraft tow us aloft and we wait until all the gliders are airborne. We are dropped off 3,000ft (950meters) above the ground. Once everyone is up they set a time for the start line to open. With the gate open you can start anytime after that. You race around a roughly 300 mile (500km) course. Fastest person wins. Winning speeds are over 100mph (163kph). Women compete with us, no separate class.
