How far is far enough?

I have always wondered how far other boaters get from the dock/ land
before they feel comfortable getting comfortable. Especially here in
the PNW we are often not far from land and/or other boats. I would like
to hear other peoples ideas of how far from dock, land, other boats you
are before you either disrobe, or cover up as appoaching.
I know for myself it seems to be about 300 yards.
TIA for all responses
Charlie

I'm about the same distance.  Maybe a little more  as my boat doesn't have a very deep cockpit.

Thanks Sailor 2. I guess my original estimation was also based on the if I can see them, they can see me judgement. I too don't want to offend anyone.

off the coast of Los Angeles, I go by the rule, if you are 3 miles off shore then it is easier to get naked, and most people are far enough to avoid seeing you!

Once you are more than three miles offshore, state laws no longer apply. Its federal jurisdiction in coastal waters from 3 to 12 miles out and no laws prohibiting nudity. Beyond 12 miles is international waters and again no laws prohibiting nudity.

I don't have a boat so I have no first hand experience.
However. several people have posted that once they leave the dock, everything comes off.

I guess it just depends on how daring you want to be. I have stayed nude for example on islands by the river and as boaters passed by sometimes from 30 yards away I would just position my legs in such a way that I am not blatantly exposing myself. I usually always just get a friendly wave and an envious smile. But if I am walking around nude I usually make sure they are a couple hundred yards away, unless they make a beeline to me for a better view, then sometimes they get a show. :-)

Always a challenge when you wish to extend the moment as long as possible but the end of the journey is near!

My boat has a fairly deep cockpit, so I generally lose the shorts after a couple hundred yards. Two summers ago I was surprised by a boat in the Apostle Islands that came up behind us rather quickly and I did not see until they passed us, they may have gotten a glimpse of the side of my thigh and hip. I did grab my towel but it was too late. They never acknowledged anything.

Anyone ever have a opportunity to launch your boat nude?

I don't own a boat but have friends who do.
Anyone ever have a opportunity to launch your boat nude?
I've been told that in Missouri you can be nude on your boat as long as it's not tied to shore -- can't launch the boat nude, but as soon as you're floating free in the water, you can drop trou. Can't swim nude from the shore, but can jump nude into the water from your boat.

No specific idea on the distance and, having left my spectacles behind when heading out, no specific idea on how well I can be seen in my kayak! Once seated, the critical areas are out of sight to all but adjacent souls, but if I honour the lifejacket regulation in the beach, that is more obvious. My starting beach does not afford a chance to launch nude on most occasions, but the destination beach allows a walk leaving everything behind except my cap. My recent best was about 1 km from my craft. A couple of small powered boats came close while walking the other day, but presumably they were more interested in the fish than me. Hard to tell with certainty, though!

It usually takes about ten seconds after I am outside of the marina before I am naked.
