Since then, there's always been a contingent of thong-clad men, and other nudity has been rare on the south unit -- I found secluded spots for sunning and discrete skinny-dips right on the beach in the north unit but those have lost their cover as erosion changes the beachfront year by year.
It appears that ranger patrols have been reduced (I'm guessing budget limits, especially with what they've had to spend after the last few years' storm damage). I've started to see a bit more flagrant nudity on the south unit (a topless woman this last sunday, a guy changing into his thong in full view of the beach). Especially further down the beach, it seems an opportunity to start colonizing the place again.
Sundays seem to be my best day to get there -- anyone else want to join me? Walk a mile south of the nature center, you might find me (but without a signal, you won't find me nude -- I'll see you coming).

Beautiful day on the beach on Saturday. Not a lot of people out there, but just about everyone there wore a thong and occasionally less. Flies didn't show until about 5pm (wind shifted?), no sign of rangers.

Aug 16, 2018Went today and came across a nude couple on the south end. When they saw me they quickly got dressed. I told them I was going to do the same. They did not undress again, but did not mind me being nude. Too bad because it was beautiful weather, no flies, and the water was nice.

May 19, 2019Personally I have not yet but I spoke with a couple in the area that said the patrols are happening, be careful.

Aug 1, 2019I was there last week and had no issues. Still have to be discreet with your nudity, but thongs and g-strings are fine everywhere.

Aug 1, 2019Cool - thank you both for the updates. The board has been quiet so I was worried it was getting worse there but I guess no news is good news.

I called to find out their opening status.
You can walk on the beach, you can't sit on the beach.Going off trails to sun in the dunes has always been frowned upon strongly.
I'm thinking my best bet might be Hosah Park, just between the state property and the old nuke plant. They've lost almost all their beach though.

Omg I would love to go up there on day

Jun 12, 2020Thank you for the info MXQ. I bet they are limiting use due to Corona by saying no sitting like some of the parks and beaches on the east and west coast have done. This is going to wind up being a no-tan summer for me :(
ReactReply - MXMXQ123Original PosterJun 17, 2020
How come you can't sit on the beach?
Virus transmission is tired to prolonged exposure. If you keep moving you're unlikely to pass or receive sufficient virus. So sitting, picnicking, etc are banned in many places. But especially away from the main beach, there's enough space that it shouldn't be a problem.ReactReply

Made it out there last Saturday. They are no longer banning sitting on the beach.
Beach damage in the north unit continues, there's nothing left in places, the bike trail is less than 20ft from the water in spots with if 27th street. The south unit nature area is in pretty good shape, but the paved path north of the main lot has been washed out.
Unfortunately, the biting flies were out in force. You really couldn't stand still. A few folks came, sat, and went while I hiked. There's evidence of rangers' tire tracks at the south end, probably keeping people north of the Dead River during plover nesting season.
Give it a week or two, or look for days with wind from the east, to avoid the flies.

So will the biting flies be brutal on any day the wind isnt coming from the East?

Went today, relatively crowded but there were a couple nude guys about 2/3 the way down the beach, maybe the same ones Dan saw? I asked them if there had been rangers around, not sure English was their first language as they thought I was talking about rain.
There were a few too many people coming in and out even down near the Dead River for me to spend more than a short while nude. Usually I'd get in the water and skinny dip, but the lake was a little cold for that

Starting immediately, the beaches at Illinois Beach State Park are closed on weekends, to promote social distancing.
I'll have to see if I can escape work on a sunny weekday

Hi. I may have some time to hang out by that beach in Thursday (08/27) end of the afternoon the earliest. Would love to try going there.
I unfortunately did not find lot of info. Is being nude there legal ? Is the ranger if coming by and sees you truly dont mind ?
If anyone would hangout there that Thursday, I could use a guide to find a spot. First time there.
Thanks.

So it seems the flies suck at all times of the year unless
the wind is blowing from the East? Trying to take the wife but the flies are the only issue for her.ReactReply - KI
Oct 7, 2020I am here today. I went skinny dipping for a few minutes, there was no one in sight except a very old couple that was dressed and walking north close to the resort.
