What you do with your wintertime down time
Return to DiscussionsWhen we were younger, seemed we always had stuff going on. I guess caring for kids was cause for a lot of that, you know taxiing and shopping.
These days, we're content with hanging around the house.
The down side with the cold season is finding stuff to do inside when you can't really enjoy the outside unless you don't mind exposing your skin to layers of fabric.(which I seem to avoid as often as possible these days).
What do you all do inside all day?
Aside from my TN time, we tend to watch youtube videos.
Annie is in the other room making oooh and aaaah sounds and the occasional giggle as she watches some silly bit on Ellen or some other comical compilation that requires enduring the occasional mandatory seconds worth of ads.
My ooohs and aaahs are from the bizarre reaction of traveling protons during the observation process from a recent quantum physics video. I was getting bored with my chemistry book and needed a break. (never really bored with it, just hit a slow part)
Guess I have a geeky side!
Gave my greenhouse a face lift today once the sun came up enough.
A balmy 80 degrees while I nursed some flowers and tended to my lime bush.
Great naked time when it's cold out!
Wifey even joined me for a cocktail while I cleaned up. A pleasant surprise
I'm fortunate enough that it's only really cold during January & February...that said both the inside and outside projects keep me moving. I want to work on my privacy fence this fall & winter, clean up my shop and do a few house chores. I'm still clearing brush from around the lot and burning yard debris. There's still more trees to cut up and burn but that'll be a long process. But...lots of wood for a nice fire (outside) in the evenings. Fireside wine tastings...yes!!
It provides a great opportunity to tend to all the chores we left behind during the good weather season, and also time to do things to do to get ready for the next season. I tend to do chores during this season that were too hot or tiring during the summer months.
For the most part... Winter in So Cal means the temps will hit lows in the mid 20's... on occasion. When it's that cold, we're asleep under our comforter. By 9-10 am, temps will rise to no lower than 60 degrees. Been out naked most of the day in those temps... as long as there is no wind.
So, as far as down time, it's no different than any other time. We're both retired so many of our days are down time days if we are not traveling or chasing after grandkids. We will sometimes spend a day out and about in clothes or seek warmer temps in Palm Springs and go get naked with other like minded folks! ;D
We don't really have Winter projects or Summer projects. We just do them and do them naked whenever possible throughout the year.
I try and get projects done around the house/yard that I don't want to do when it's really hot and humid outside. This winter I will be doing some painting to get our house ready to re-enter the sales market in the spring. Of course I can do that naked with the heat on. We still get some sunny days and if out of the wind can be nice for laying out nude and there is always the hot tub and wine!
Lately I've been contemplating all of the outside jobs that didn't get done when the weather was nice, because I was having too much fun being naked outdoors. So they are postponed another season! Also he inside jobs like painting and refinishing furniture that need to be postponed because I can't open the windows. Until it's summer when I will postpone them again because "who wants to be indoors when it's so nice to be naked outside?" Yes, it takes a lot of my free time to manage the to-do list to be postponed, ala Maynard G Krebbs (OMG, showing my age). :-)
So some reading, a little too muchf TV/netflix/movies, some travel, some entertaining. Hope you all have a nice winter!!
