Return to DiscussionsWhat's the best national park for a naked hike? I've done one in Arches. It was fun and I have another one planned for there. If you know where to look, you can find places to stay out of trouble. Canyonlands should be good. I might try Death Valley in a couple of weeks.
Re: Tanque Verde Falls near Tucson in Jan/Feb: Absolutely you can hike here naked in mid-winter -- depending on the day. The only thing is, it's much more hit-and-miss with regard to warmth. The longer you're in the area, the better the odds you'll be favored by one or more nice warm sunny days. OTOH, if you're only going to be in the area for 3 or 4 days, you'd best cross your fingers (and maybe everything else you have two of :) for good weather.
Re: sandals: I've hiked here (and scrambled around the canyon) in sandals exclusively, but always in a pair whose straps over foot and behind heel can be made secure. Flip flops? No bloody way.
Another thing about sandals, it good to have a backup in your pack. I've hiked in mine all over the place and they have held up well despite there being almost nothing to them. However, I did blow one up in Costa Rica. Fortunately, I was fine walking back barefooted, and the company--Xero--replaced them for me. For the record, I now use US made sandals from Earth Runners.
We participated in the nude 5K run at a local club. It's situated up in the hills adjacent to fire roads/hiking trails that is several miles long. They use this for their 5K track. The winner of the race for the first 3-4 years was a young guy, non-nudist but ran nude and wore similar "running" sandals. They laced up around his lower leg. What was funny is that he had a ton of naked people standing around him more interested in his sandals than the fact that he was a first time nudie. The following couple of years, he brought male and female friends, also runners.
Lately, it's been great hiking weather but not so much, naked hiking weather. Too cold and windy for these older naked bods.
